i'm noticing that many mobos are no longer putting on COM ports. i need a COM port to access my server when it crashes...if i choose a board w/out a COM port..how else can i access it? ... are their any conversion adapters to other ports?

Serial PCI cards. You can grab them pretty cheap, and they work just fine. Not sure about your usage, but you'd think it would be OK.

I chose my board in part because it has a built-in COM port. Being mini-PCI with an add-in graphics card you can't fit too many PCI boards in there, and I might be adding a sound card so add-in serial cards weren't really an option. Besides, lots of boards, including most server boards, still have at least one.

You can use a USB to Serial adapter. I use the Iogear GUC232A which is about $24. There are probably cheaper ones out there.
