Actually, it's a Catholic K-8 school... that can teach "God's word" however it wants to anyone who chooses to attend. It also teaches secular sujects like reading and math, etc.
 
I thought the idea behind discrimnation laws was to protect people from being discriminated against for things they couldn't choose.

A child doesn't choose to be X race, or X gender, so you don't disciminate based on those things.

How did the student choose who its parents would be?

Well, private entities can discriminate however they choose.
 
The school has every right to do it. Funny to see people whining about it -- if you don't like their beliefs and what they stand for, don't go there.
 
In other news, liberal corporate media spins a non-issue to stir up controversy against catholic institution.
 
Bad decision by the church. A child should only get removed from a school if the child misbehaves to whatever extent necessary to make that type of decision. What the parents lifestyle choices have to do with the child being enrolled in the school is beyond me... Poor kid.

There's nothing wrong with organized religion...just some of the people who organize them. Organized religion does a hell of of lot of good in the world in case you haven't noticed.

it's kind of an issue to punish a child for his parents' actions, especially with the rampant hypocrisy of this case.

if nothing else, hopefully the media attention gets some parents to pull their kids out of the school or gets his superiors to overrule his decision.

I wonder how many parents would be proud of sending their kids to a whites-only school.

Yes there is. It traps spiritual beliefs in mankind's weaknesses and imperfections and gives additional justification and means for man to carry out his desire for power and influence.

It does not do enough good to outweigh the bad, or to justify its existence.

It's not punishment because the child was not "entitled" to anything in the first place.

Based on college surveys? I wouldn't consider that conclusive, statistically accurate data.
What I'm questioning is how "organized" religion matters on the overall scale of religion. Your typical college kid quits attending sunday service and decided to pursue buddhism, even though she never truly ascribed to any religion before or after, just want to be associated with a different clique or social group.

Man doesn't need religion to carry out his desire for power and influence...he'll use any tool available (including religion) and such is his nature as recorded throughout history. This isn't a problem with religion...it's a problem with man and his deep-seated desire to control others.

It's easy to blame religion though...but the truth of the matter is a little more profound. Religion is just a strawman for you.

Religion is a creation of man. As such, it is subject to all of man's faults, so yes it is a problem with religion. Organized religion is the logical (and far too often catastrophic) conclusion of it being subject to those faults. Organized religion needs money, needs to recruit and retain members, seeks political power and influence, and must protect itself.
