No CDMA Windows Phone 7 in 2010

This is not surprising - if you've paid attention to the rumors, pretty much every phone that's been leaked has been GSM, generally with AT&T bands. While I would find an AT&T exclusive launch to be...curious, it seems possible. Although there was a recent rumor of the HTC HD7 on T-Mobile.

Either way, they said first half of 2011 for CDMA, so its not like Verizon/Sprint will have to wait that long. Almost assuredly will come out before the next iPhone, at any rate.

Strange unless they mainly care about international sales. Highly unlikely that anyone that is stuck on AT&T would want anything other than BB or an iPhone. Sad how Microsoft's execution in the mobile space is so asinine.

Its rumored (and at this point seems pretty likely) to be launching first in Europe, which explains their GSM-first mentality.

Yeah it does. We can get a new phone on Sprint in December and I also was really hoping to get a WP7. :(

It says "first half of 2011". While that could mean June, it could also mean January...not like you'd half to wait that long.

6 months is a long time in the tech world.

Well, yea, but it really depends on what phone they release. If they release the same phone in June 2011 that AT&T got in November 2010, its likely to be outdated, but it could be updated with the times. But then again, the latest-and-greatest Desire HD is basically the HD2 with Android on it, so HTC's technology has practically stayed the same for the past year.

Point being, there's a lot of doomsayers on this forum, and while it sucks if you wanted a WP7 phone on Verizon/Sprint this fall, its not the end of the world. For those people or for WP7.

Right but then they'd have to contend with Gingerbread-based phones on all carriers. So then they'd have a far more powerful competitor to deal with. Besides, it's not as if Microsoft is making the phones. They could've gotten a worldwide release on almost all carriers with a plethora of phones from many manufacturers. Their execution is just terrible.

You just said they don't make the phones, didn't you?

Edit: Regardless, while a launch on every US carrier would be nice, its not like this is an abnormal practice. iPhone launched on AT&T. Android launched on T-Mobile. WebOS on Sprint. Blackberry typically launches a new line (storm, torch) on a single carrier.

Oh well, just like a previous poster, I am on Sprint and due for my upgrade in December. My Pre is slowly dying so I'm sure by the time December arrives I will need to upgrade regardless of whether I want to wait or not.

It's too bad really because unless the hardware really blew I was going to give WP7 a shot. Now, if Engadget is showing spy shots of a CDMA phone that will be released in early 1st half 2011 then maybe I can hold on... but I'm not playing this waiting game for 6 more months when I'm already able to upgrade with full discount every 12 months.

I am in almost the exact situation as you where my sprint pre has some problems (50% of the time it will answer a call but not play audio through the speaker or take voice from the mic... guessing some wiring is messed up inside as I can hear if I use the headphone jack).

Either way I was debating going to the evo or epic both of which would carry the extra 4g fee which makes their plan as expensive as everybody else. Now that my corp discounts have ended (that was the reason I first went to sprint was my company had a discount with them which they stopped doing a few months ago). I am going to just pay the etf on my sprint contract, pick a new phone and then a carrier to go with it once they actually announce who is getting what and when. I am hopeful tmobile will get something good because their even more plus plans are cheaper in the long run. Would really prefer not to deal with at&t because their data caps and their coverage is not very good where I live. Had sprint gotten a wp7 device this year I probably would have waited but with a semi busted phone I have to make a decision now and I wanted wp7 more than an android phone so I'll pay a bit extra and get what I really want.
