"No Bump, No Reply to PM" Seen these statements in the For Sale forum?

I am wondering what the significance of these statements are "No bump, no reply".

In the for sale forum, I've seen a few people using this, now keeping in mind, some of these guys are looking for an item and maybe a persons pm's with a deal, but because they don't bump their thread at the same time, they refuse to answer the pm....Ever heard of anything so stupid?

There's actually a few that thinks it's a common courtesy and almost a requirement to do this.

Makes me laugh, I say "Don't answer, loose out on the deal", what's the use of posting a wanted to buy thread if you don't answer you pm to make a deal? It cracks me up to think these people are trying to bully members to bump their threads, I imagine because of the 4 hr limit....

Just a rant and rave...

That may be, but to have people outright state "If you don't bump my thread I won't respond to your PM" is a load of you know what.

Agreed. These people instantly go on my DNT list.

The forums tell you when you have a PM.

That means you have to keep checking up in the corner. Who wants to do that, when you can simply hear the sound of a new email notification?

This system has been used for years and has never been a big deal. Furthermore, you shouldn't even be participating in the For Sale/Trade forum since you are not complying with the For Sale/Trade rules. (ie your profile)

Sure it could be a valid email address, but your profile is not visible.

I get it now, it's a two part rule:

1)You MUST display your profile 2)with a valid email address

But I'm still wondering what "you shouldn't even be participating in the For Sale/Trade forum" has to do with the original question and point of this thread?

The discussion proceeded from what did they mean to those that require bumps in order to deal with you. It is an abuse of the system and pushes threads down even faster in FS/FT.

For years now the blicking lock icon has been used to denote new PMs and your argument that bumps are necessary for email notification is weak. Just log in once a day with the sole purpose to check your PMs.

Well let's say this is true, then what if your PM to someone is delayed in receipt, is this a big problem? You can read it 10 minutes or so after it arrives instead of within 10 seconds? Holding your reply to a PM hostage in exchange for a 'bump' = Seller could always request email replies in addition to PM if hearing the announcement was the true objective.

No offense to any traders, but I don't think I would trade with anyone that required me to bump the thread if I send them a PM.

I absolutely agree. If I see that in a thread, I will move on to the next one and add them to my DNT list.
Bumping after making an offer (I assume that is what the PM is for) is not a good idea as far as I am concerned. Why make an offer then bump the thread so that someone else might see it and make a higher offer? I will bump the thread if you reject my offer but I am not going to bump myself out of a sale.

Another agreement here, seems to be a way of getting around the 4 hr limit and waste bandwidth...I would hate to think that I'm so desperate to sell something or buy it, that I limit myself only to traders that actually bump my thread.

Its amazing how much stuff is sold in a thread and you have no idea of who it went to, because it always seems to be sold to Mister pm....the guy that beat you out by pming first, while you were typing in the thread and bumping it at the same time, how ironic!

Glad to see the traders in here, not putting up with this nonsense...

Put me on your DNT list, I don't care. This is OLD skool courtesy and has been the case EVER since I've been here. Don't like it, don't deal with me, I really don't care. I mainly put it there because of newbie traders with no refs making rediculous offers via email/icq but if you really think it's a just cause to add someone to the DNT list, so be it. At least with a post and PM, there is a track record if you ever get trolled.

BTW, you can ask quite a few of the people that have PM'ed me. I usually reply. It's just meant to weed out those who have NO RESPECT. I Guess since you are all so opposed and started a rant without having the common COURTESY to ask why, I'll add you to MY DNT list.

Personally, I just think it's impollite not to bump a fellow's FS/FT thread and I bump many others that I run across whether I deal with them or not.
