Quick update: I made a mistake by buying the Caviar Green. I was cripplingly sick that day and was not thinking clearly and ended up making a dumb decision. I'll be trying to RMA this one or sell it and go back to my previous idea of a Spinpoint F3. The OP will be changed to reflect this.

Totally kicking myself for doing that btw.

I've had my eye on the http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16811103011]XCLIO Windtunnel Full Tower Case[/url] for a while now and it just went on discount. I'm looking at $125 taxed and shipped, 40 bucks more than my OP case. Considering that it should completely eliminate any question of whether or not everything will fit in the case, and the fact that it looks kick-ass, that 40 extra dollars can blow me. Should I switch cases?

Also, the http://www.newegg.com/Product/Combo...000 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive dropped down to $230, and comes with a free PSU, which I could sell to some sap on Ebay for 70 bucks or so. I'm thinking shoo-in. You?

I'm wincing at your taste in cases... your line of reasoning is not the problem, it's the taste. I would never pay shipping on a case purchase. I didn't even pay shipping on my ATCS 840 which is HUGE, and there is no compromising when you have your eyes set on THAT case. It's the best case in the full-tower market - just ask 3Dgameman. LOL

I like the VR + Purepower combo idea though. If you could fetch $70 for that PSU, then $130 for a VR would smell sweet as warm apple pie.

Just updated the OP. Just bought a case and put up some additional options for your judgements. Check up on it.

I just noticed your monitor. That is the monitor I'm getting in Feb. Nice monitor. God, that case is not holy. 😀 Whoever engineered that case should be shot.

Well, I took your advice and found a place that didn't charge shipping, and saved 30 bucks on it. Also, I really like this case. Its strange design is highly appealing to me. You obviously just can't appreciate my eccentric tastes! Go buy another Antec 900 😛

Oh! That is good then!

😀 I have the Cooler Master ATCS 840 in black. My 2nd choice was an Antec, but the P193 not the 900/1200.

Oh snap well obviously I was totally off the mark there, it's not like Cooler Master is a mainstream entry-level brand, not at all.

Why is a VelociRaptor (which won't be all that much faster than a Caviar Black or other similar 7200 RPM hard drives) an optional purchase on a gaming machine that has no budget, while the drive you'll be using until/if you choose to buy a better drive? You realize the Caviar Greens are 5400 RPM drives right? Basically Caviar Blacks except they slowed them right down to save on energy costs so they will slow you down since a system is only as fast as its slowest component depending on what you do.

Also for keyboards, I have a G11 and it has the noticable depression of keys which are all backlit, also has the 18x3 programmable buttons you say you don't want/use, but I can tell you from experience it is a royal PITA to take it apart to clean properly; to this day I have yet to fully disassemble sheerly because I felt I'd break pieces off before it came apart like it was supposed to. I've read up on some other reviews of the board with somewhat similar experiences (maybe I'm just too delicate on it since everyone else manages to piece it out).
As for mice, I really do like my Microsoft Sidewinder, other people think the G5/Razer mice are a lot better but this is one component, where if you're investing more than $20 in you should go to a store nearby and try playing around with display samples. Different mice feel/perform differently according to how you use it/grip so you might end up loving a mouse everyone else says is a piece of crap.

Other than that your choice of parts is nice for the system you're trying to build in the end, really look into the hard drives though.

I have addressed storage in the OP. I do not necessarily plan on keeping the Caviar Green.

The mice you have suggested are designed for palm grippers. I need a small, fingertip mouse.

I just retired my little microsoft laptop mouse because I could only use my fingertips with it. You might like it...
