I have a 94 Ford Ranger XLT 4.0 V6 extended cab w/ 172k miles.
I noticed that I don't have any brake lights, not even the one on the cab. I checked the fuse but it was obviously fine since my taillights work.
I didn't even think about it but my dad said to check the BOO (Brake light On/Off switch).
I found it on the brake pedal shaft and I could wiggle it up and down a little bit. Well, doing this made my lights work. What I mean is, if I pull the front of the switch up or down a little bit the lights work until I let of the brake. Pushing down the brake pedal and not touching the switch results in no lights.
My question is, I don't know anything about the operation of the switch. Should I just get another one and stick it in or is there something wrong with the mechanism since the circuit is completed if I move the switch up or down a little? Should there be any play in it?
