No boot after i specify the CPU - No Co-Processor? IT7Max p4 2.53

Specs:
Abit IT7 Max
P4 2.53 ghz
Mushkin 512 ddr
gainward geforce 3
western digital 120 gig spec edition
liteon dvd/cdrw
stock cooling, no overclocking

When i first pressed power it booted just fine i went into the bios and first did load optimal settings and pressed power, the screen went dark and no boot but the cpu went thru the boot up sequence

Then I cleared the cmos and tried it in load fail safe options and same thing happened

then i took out the heatsink and reseated the cpu & heatsink, the ram and the video card (no other cards on it) and did the same optimal/fail safe modes with cmos resets in between

so then i did fail safe and then went into the cpu properties and specified myself that it was 19x133 and it still did the same thing

i decided to see if there was a new firmware out so i updated to the latest firmware and so i went to http://fae.abit.com.tw/eng/download/bios/it7.htm and got the BT (i had the A4) and tried all 3 (optimal/fail safe/ me specifiying the cpu)

each and every time when it freezees in this spot the LED error display on the mobo says 7A which the manual describes as "Detect and Install Co-Processor" umm this is a one proc mobo

Please help me, i'm flabbergasted!

I have a very similar setup and it works great, so I'll try and help since I'm familiar with that board. So after you reset the CMOS, and just change the CPU to 2530/533 in the BIOS and that's it, save and exit, it still doesn't boot properly? If so, something is wrong.

Things to check:

Like you already did, you'll want to reseat the processor, and make sure it has a proper layer of thermal paste/grease in addition.

Take out all PCI devices, and keep your video card in. You'll want to go: Motherboard + RAM + Video + CPU w/ HSF and that's it. Unplug everything else.

Try a different power supply if you can, though it doesn't really sound like that's what the problem is in this case.

"the screen went dark and no boot but the cpu went thru the boot up sequence"

That's the only thing that is confusing me. I'm thinking that it just isn't posting after you save and exit in the BIOS, but I don't know if that's what you mean or not. It also maybe sounds like no video? I'm not quite sure what you mean.

basically the mobo won't send a signal to the monitor, what i meant by the screen went dark is the LED on the monitor went from green to orange (hence no signal is being sent to the monitor)

but the LCD display on the mobo actually wrote every step of what was happening until it came to a halt at the A7 error

my friend has my AS3 and so i had no thermal grease at home but i figured since the stock cooling came with that black stuff on it (i had the stock cooler from my other box which has a 2.26 that was retail, this 2.53 was an oem so it came with no cooling but i just gave this box the stock that was in my closet) anyways since it had the black thermal grease-like thing i just thought it would be fine

do you think the lack of thermal grease (or good one at least) could be it?

there are no pci devices hooked up to it btw, in a few min i'm going to try to take out the fans(except for the one on the heatsink) hd, cdrw, and dvd so i'll know its not the psu...

the Co-processor they are referring to is the x87 FP processor. It has been integrated into the main core since Pentium I. So I don't think you should or even can turn it off.
