No beeps, no video

I have a P4G8X Deluxe board with a P4 2Ghz CPU. When I turn on the system I get power, lights, but no action. There is no beeps to even let me know what the problem might be. The CPU fan spins and so do all of the other fans in the case, but nothing. Does anyone have any ideas what the problem might be?

Did you try clearing CMOS? Did you check all cables, connections and their orientation? Have you tried reseating the HSF, RAM and videocard? My $0.02.

Did all that you mentioned. Cleared CMOS twice, re-seated CPU and memory. I think it might be a grounding problem. I am going to take the mobo out of the case and try to power up.

I am going to try and get another CPU and try that one to see if it will work. But so far, nothing...

Was the system working proir to this, or is this a new installation?

EDIT: This would be a good time to use a POST diagnostic card, if nothing else works. It will give you an error code that will tell you what is failing. They can be found on eBay for about $40-50, then you can resell it when your done.

I would think that if the problem was not CPU related, then I would at least get some type of beeps. This is a new setup with all new hardware that is installed thus far. I have tried just starting the motherboard with just the CPU which should generate some beeps, but nothing. I would hate to have to return the board since I waited so long to get it. I might just invest in a POST card to try and fiigure out the problem. Thanks for the suggestion.

I had a problem similar to this. I was using a Directron case with a generic psu and an Aopen P4 motherboard. It ran a 2.0 cpu just fine but when I switched it to a 2.4, nothing but fans. I stuck it in another case with a Raidmax psu and it worked fine. Seems the motherboard didn't like certain generic power supplies.

If all else fails, I remove the mobo from the case and install just the processor. If I still have no beeps, I try another case/psu or install the chip in another rig...depending on what I have available.

did you check the capacitators, I had 3 AOpen mobo's die on me because of bad (swollen/leaking) caps. if your caps look like overdue cans of food, you better get the caps fixed, or get a new mobo ...

Try powering up the board with no CPU, no memory, no video, no keyboard... just the bare board. If the speaker's working but you don't get any beeps in that situation, the board may be bad. I assume you are using a quality brand of power supply and at least 300W, preferably more?

When I tried to turn on the board with nothing installed on it, just the power supply, it would turn on quickly then just shut off. I thought this was a protection thing for the motherboard since no cpu, memory, or video was installed at the time. With the CPU installed the board powers up and statys on, but no beeps or video. The current case has a powermax 500 watt psu. I have another case with a 300 watt power supply. I'll put it in that case and will see what happens. There is a computer show this weekend. I am so frustrated that I might buy another mobo, cpu, memory, and video and give that a try as well. Thanks for all of the suggesstions!!!

Try an Enermax or Antec power supply first. Powermax...

Sounds like it might be a CPU problem, I've had boards that won't beep or anythng unless a good CPU is installed.

I believe the problem is a faulty CPU as well. I now have two motherboards installed in tow different cases and neither will beep or boot with the same CPU. If I had another CPU, I could definitively say if it was the CPU, but unfortunately I don't have one. I am going to try and get a new one cross shipped to me while I send the seemingly faulty one back. If the problem IS the CPU, I will have a slightly used motherboard for sale.
