I'm not sure what happen but within the last few days my cable speed has died when connecting through my linksys 4 port router and all computers connected to it. Typically i can get an average of about 220k when i download. Now the only way i can get that speed is through a direct connection from the cable modem to one computer without going through the router. What typically happens when i connect to the router is i d/l at around 2-5k and it will periodically jump to around 40+k. When i transfer files from computer to computer through the router everything works perfectly. I've also noticed that the activity light on the cable modem (RCA) doesn't stop blinking. This occurs even when all computers are turned off. Information is being transfered but i'm not sure from where and how much. I've restored all the setting's back to factory default on both the modem and router and still this problem continues. My router is a Linkysys BEFSR41 v.1 and my cable company is Time Warner Road Runner. I'm located in the Southern California area and use a RCA cable modem that they supplied. Is this possibly a way for them to prevent people from networking computers? Or is this a genuine hardware/software problem. Or possibly one mean trojan that is sucking up all my juice.

All i can say is Linksys sucks ass. I own a linksys 4 port router too but i had a different problem. I had it for like a year, then after that whenever i upload file to some1.. the file would be corrupted. I tried resetting the router but the problem still occurs. Right now i just use Window's ICS. Sorry can't help ya. If you could return the product, i suggest you do so.

There is a lot of bad talk with the above Product. I got the SMC Barricade 7004 series and have no problems including VPN connections.
