No Audio

I recently wiped my harddrive and reinstalled XP, but my audio cannot work. I installed the drivers for my computer, and it installs, but whenever I try to use winamp or audio, it says DirectSound error.

Also, under control Panel and Audio Devices, it says none listed. My speakers are plugged in, so I dont know what is wrong. I have an Acer AspireT180

Do you have a seperate sound card or onboard audio with your mobo? If seperate then try reseating the card. If onboard try a repair install. I know that you just installed but if that doesnt work then I would try to download latest drivers and reinstall them and then if that doesnt work I would say that your audio if poofed.

Did you download/install DirectX (9.0c I think is the latest)?

Try running DxDiag and see if that helps isolate any issues.

Another thing to try is go into the Hardware Device Manager and see if you have an exclaimation mark anywhere. Maybe try deleting the Sound stuff in the Hardware Manager and let Windows reinstall on boot up.
