I got some hdtv rips of a few tv shows, but i can't get them to play audio.
i believe i have all the codecs one would need for their audio playback, so i was wondering if anyone had the same problem.

Are these TS or TP files? What were they ripped from? The only way to get HD onto a computer currently is by having an HDTV tuner card in your computer... And a lot of times you need an HDTV card to play back TS or TP files.

Actually, a certain motorola hd cable box can be hacked to allow it's firewire out to work w/ a pc....

I'm not familiar with TS or TP is, can you explain?

As for where i got them from?
Bittorrent. They are just regular .avi files, but they say hdtv in the name, which i would assume means they were ripped from the aforementioned.

He's probably talking about video files captured from an HDTV card and compressed into divx or the sort.

n7, try Googling for an installing "AC3 filter". That's the only thing for audio that I've installed on my computer and HDTV rips work fine for me. :/

you could try getting a program called gspot, which will tell you what codec you're missing. hopefully, it'll help you determine which audio codec you are missing.

The GSpot Appliance claims the file is good & i have the necessary codecs to play it.
I think it's not, cause after installing some codecs i thought i already had, the other hdtv rips play now, just one doesn't.

Thanx for the help guys :)

Actually TS stands for transport stream, and isn't really compressed, as far as I know. A half hour is about 8 GB.
