I bought a concert DVD from Amazon. It's given me my first ever issue on this computer. When it plays in WMP12, there is no sound. Video playback is fine. No error messages.

~I definitely have sound functioning on this computer; I play games and MP3 files constantly
~Every other DVD that I own that I throw into the drive plays with sound
~Tested the DVD itself on my living room TV (via PS3) and sound plays fine there
~Someone elsewhere suggested that I try "K-Lite Codec Pack" but that didn't seem to help

I don't know how to proceed troubleshooting. Any help is massively appreciated.

Google CCCP and install it, I can't see it being a codec issue but nothing else makes sense, not that the codec thing does but it's worth a shot.

No go on the suggested codec - ty though.

Just gonna chalk this up to random computer voodoo that mankind will be never be able to explain.

Check the volume mixer when the dvd is playing, it might be on digital out so no sound from speaker.

Have you tried different audio tracks/languages? Maybe the audio on the disc isn't in the language/type that Media Player is configured to use, and your default doesn't exist (or is empty) on the disc. It's a long shot, but worth a try.

Please read the OP before replying.

Clearly, the DVD audio is in a format that your DVD playback software doesn't understand, so it doesn't play back the audio track.

Have you tried ripping, demuxing, and then re-encoding the audio track using a standard codec, remuxing, and re-authoring the DVD?
