No audio when playing DVDs

The system: Dell Vostro 1000 Notebook

OS: Fresh install of Windows XP Home SP2 (updated to SP3 via website) installed from Windows CD, NOT original Dell system disk. Dell drivers etc. installed from site above.

DVD player: Windows Media player version 11.0.5721.5230

Other software: Nero 6 version 6.6.0.8 Nero DVD plug-in encoder added.


The issue: The system plays all forms of audio except DVD. CD, Wave, MP3 etc. are all fine, but with a DVD I get picture with no sound.

Have you tried using a differet DVD decoder? ffdshow? How about VLC?

As ChAo suggested download the CCCP codec here

I also suggest you get the VLC player to go with it. Once you take these steps you should be able to play all most anything.
