RESOLUTION TO ISSUE: Ran the Windows 10 Upgrade off the downloaded Media Creation Tool ISO and chose the option to keep apps and data as shown in this video and within an hour it completed the process and every slam in Device Manager was gone and Realtek (though listed as just High Definition Audio) and the Sound Blaster Z were functional. What a nightmare. Wish I'd started with this.
============
Original Post:

Last week the onboard Realtek audio on my Gigabyte X99-UD5 WIFI-based system (specs at bottom of post) simply disappear as in nothing shows in Device Manager or Sound control panel. Spent HOURS trying to reload driver (no errors when installing drivers, just no change), both old and new from website, checking that Azalea audio was enabled in BIOS, etc. with no success. It simply doesn't show in Device Manager's Sound, Video and Game Controllers section.

However, down in System Devices there are two entries for High Definition Audio Controller, one which is fine and the other having a slam on it and Device Status reports: "This device cannot start. (Code 10) Insufficient system resources exist to complete the API." (Also under Network Adapters the Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 is slammed with a "This device cannot start. (Code 10) (Operation Failed} The requested operation was unsuccessful." error; updating those drivers didn't help either.)

Because I have a Focusrite Scarlet 2i2 audio interface driving my studio monitors and headphones, I've been limping by until I could try some more.

Today, I bought a used CL Sound Blaster Z SE sound card because my old X-Fi card is PCI and the mobo only has PCI-E slots. Pop it in, check it in Device Manager and it has a slam on Sound Blaster Audio Controller in DevMan, presumably because no drivers installed.
DLed drivers from Creative site and run them and they quit with a message that there was no supported hardware detected. Huh? Go back to check DevMan and this time, same as before, Device Status reports: "This device cannot start. (Code 10) Insufficient system resources exist to complete the API."

I can't find any fix for this regarding audio devices other than general "ya needs to load driver hurr derp" and a LOT of pages for fixing this in relation to the Xbox 360 controller not working. I have a wired X360 pad attached, but unplugging and rebooting made no difference.

I really hope someone has a fix for this. I've lost about eight hours over three nights trying to sort this out. I've been building my own rigs since the late-'90s and have never seen something like this before. TIA!

UPDATE: I'm suspecting some sort of Windows and/or Registry cause underlying it. I've tried deleting the UpperFilters key for the audio media GUID, but that made no difference.

UPDATE #2: Made a Ubuntu USB stick and booted off it and once I figured out how to switch audio devices I can get sound out of the onboard and Sound Blaster cards. So something is fucking up Windows seeing audio devices. Something prevents the drivers from loading or even the hardware being seen. Now what?
