No audio thru surround when using PS3

I have a Yamaha surround sound system HTR 6130, the surround sound works great when watching tv, my problem is when i am using the PS3 i get no sound thru the Surround sound, i get video but no sound, it is ran thru the Receiver, I havee to swith to DVD Channel on Receiver when i want to view the PS3....any ideas of where to start, i have HDMI from PS3 to Receiver. I can listen to the PS3 sound thru the TV speakers

set to bitstream on teh data channel for the audio settings. Unless your receiver cannot read the audio on the HDMI it should work.

Yes, that will work. Just make sure you change the audio settings in your PS3.

Ok i have optical from receiever to PS3 but still now sound???? The only optical port on the back of the audio receiver says cd...help, I am getting a little frustrated here.

You will have to set your PS3 to output through the optical cable in the settings. You will also have to either set your receiver to the CD channel or, if that doesn't work, go though your receiver's settings and see what channel the optical is set to (or you could just keep changing the channels until you find the one that works).
