No audio out after install of MP 9

Hi All,
Has anyone come a cross this one: Plug headphones into the headphone jack on front of cd drive, mute volume and sound comes out of headphones, Installed Media player 9 and now can't get the audio out of the headphone jack. The system is running Windows 2000 Pro.
