hey guys, i just bought my fujitsu lifebook A series A6110 notebook. it was pre-loaded with vista and a bunch of software. i decided to wipe my drive and put a fresh install of xp pro sp2 on it. at first, i couldnt install xp because it wouldnt detect my sata hdd. so i had to slip stream my sata raid controller into the xp install disc. once i got xp installed, i started searching for my drivers that were compatible with windows xp, because fujitsu only gave me a driver disc with vista compatible drivers, no xp drivers.

i now have pretty much evertything working well now, except for my audio driver.

you can go here to see the tech specs of the laptop i have:
http://support.fujitsupc.com/C...arch.do?srch=TECHSPECS

if it doesnt display them, choose Notebook PC for the product, A Series for the series, and A6110 is the Model

i did some searching and found the xp compatible drivers for my laptop here:
http://www.pc-ap.fujitsu.com/s.../drv_lb_wxp_A6110.html

everything is working fine, except my audio. i tried using this driver and some others, but none have worked.

this is what my device manager looks like:

if anyone can help me out in anyway, it would be much appreciated. thanks!

According to your DM, the only driver missing is the mass driver controller which is probably your SATA driver. The drivers for the Audio seems to be installed. To verify, check Control Panel and Sound/Speeches and see if you have an identified audio source. If you have the audio drivers installed, test for your audio hardware. You still need to fix the missing Mass Storage Drivers for this will affect the system performance.

ok well i used the help chat system on the fujitsu website and they told me that the only way to have sound work on my system is to use windows vista. even though their lifebook E8410 has the exact same audio device as my notebook, the driver is not compatible on my machine. the E8410 is an XP machine btw... is this possible? it seems a little illogical to me...

Hmm, seems a bit odd, but doesn't surprise me.

Manufacturers will rarely admit to supporting unofficial configurarions.

Why did you remove Vista in the first place?

I know there's a lot of bloat from the OEMs, but most of that can be cleaned up, as switching back to XP is not something i recommend to anyone.

A fresh format will make a world of difference. It's outrageous what OEMs are doing to their products before sending them out the door in terms of the crap they infest them with. I'd be embarrased to sell such a product. It makes me wonder how much money they make by doing it.

yeah i called them a few times, the first time one of the techs told me to find an older lifebook series with the same sound card and get the drivers from that and it should work, so i tried that, no good. i called again and they said there are no drivers for xp for this machine and if i want audio i would have to use vista. i called back again and another told me i need to use vista. so i got rid of xp and used the recovery disk and everything is perfect now (on vista). its actually not so bad, its not a gaming laptop in the first place so dont plan on playing any high end games, considering the video card isnt very good.
overall its a great laptop, im very happy with it, and vista doesnt seem to be making much of a difference

I just bought this brand/model on a 15 day trial to verify that I can load WINXP into it & have it run satisfactorily. I was successful except for getting the LifeBook Application Panel buttons to function, but Im not finished with ideas I have about this (eg, might try copying the "shortcutbutton.ini" file from VISTA located in the Lifebook Panel folder to the commensurate folder in the WINXP install; so before wiping VISTA from the drive save the Fujitsu folder located in C:\Program Files).

Your issue is most likely resulting from the order in which drivers are installed. Drivers such as sound drivers look for other things such as chipsets & modems; storage controllers need the chipset drivers installed first, Extension Utility needs the Extension Utility Driver installed first & all of these need the ACPI to have been installed, etc. - read the note pages which come with the driver downloads).

Below are the steps I used to accomplish my WINXP installation:

- Prepare Floppy Disk (Files for 82801HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controller)

- Set BIOS = AHCI Enabled

- Install WINXP (use F6 option)

DO NOT INSTALL DRIVERS FROM UNZIP FOLDER - COPY UNZIP TO NEW FOLDER AND INSTALL THEM FROM THERE OR THEY WILL NOT REGISTER (unless they're self extracting) !!!!

Install Order

- Chipset
- SATA
- Intel Matrix Storage Manager " iata78_enu.exe" (http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/sb/CS-022034.htm)]http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/sb/CS-022034.htm)[/L]
- ICH8M Ultra ATA Storage Controller - 2850 (82801HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controller)
- Video
- Modem
- LAN
- Wireless 4965AGN
- SmartCard
- MediaCard Reader
- TouchPad
- Audio
- Touch Button (use the VISTA Version 7.0)
- ACPI (FUJU2B1 device) - Satisfies Unknown Device DM Line Item
- System Extension Utility Device Driver (FUJ02E3) - Satisfies Unknown Device DM Line Item

- System Extension Utility
- Shock Sensor
- Power Saving Utility

- Other (eg, WebCam, FingerPrint Sensor, etc.)

When completed, there should be no dangling wires in DM. If so, these need to be cleaned up. Try to analyze problem device to ascertain dependencies. Uninstall the problem device(s) & reboot.

Helpful OS Settngs:
- Turnoff Security Center Warning Balloon (Security Center Control Panel - Last Option)
- Adjust Startup Options (uncheck):
- ALCMTR, KHALMNPR, etc. in MSCONFIG
