Before the mobos come out AMD needs to release a processor that supports DDR2, and so far that hasn't happened.

It may come out in February or it may not come out at all in 2005. I wouldn't hold my breath.

Of course not. They would have to completely change the on-die memory controller to accomodate DDR2.

See here. AMD won't be doing DDR2 anytime soon.

Here's some more.

A64's aren't memory starved like P4's. You would see NO performance increase. Also, it would require additional pins that are not available on either the 939 or 940 sockets. A socket change is NOT in the works for AMD as their dual cores will be drop ins to the current 940 socket and most likely (haven't seen proof yet on 939) 939 sockets.

I wouldn't be surprised if they skip DDR2 entirely and go to DDR3 when it's needed (quite some time from now). You don't see graphics card makers using DDR2, do you? There's a reason for that.

If they did decide to make DDR2 for the A64, besides a new line of processors, we'd be looking at something around Socket 1051.

FYI, the RAM you linked to in another thread is DDR1 overclocking RAM (PC4200, not PC2-4200); if you actually got what was linked, you're fine. If not, redo your research for the actual selling prices.

i was thinking the same thats just DDR1 "tested" is higher FSB= overclocked, i have PC-4000 DDR! as yours and it runs nicely in my A64

DDR2 on graphics cards was a big flop. Huge power hog and not much performance benefit.
Going to a 533mhz bus did not help P4 performance much at all, so AMD probably have even less motivation since their chips run at even lower multipliers.
