I think I know why they did it.
For the longest time the baby boomers were the big spenders and in charge of most of the money. They were the ones deciding how corportate dollars would be spent.
NOW, the gen'xers are the ones starting to spend their money in large quantities and also starting to make decisions for businesses. AT&T got a head start on catering to them for the big bucks. Before now they only wanted our pizza and beer money.
In order to reach us they are making remakes or reboots of 70's and 80's movies & TV shows, and using the emotional response from stuff in that era to get us buying anything they wanna sell.
