No Alert From AntiVirus Software

For those who have used Mcafee AntiVirus..... here is a question?
I know I have the latest update....(scan engine 4x with the May dat file)..... but one the users that I support was infected with a Homepage.vbs virus inspite of having all the latest updates. So what is the point of having the AntiVirus software if it does not detect the virus interactively?

Any comments ... suggestions ....

If you set it to scan only program files, and you didn't include the vbs extension, it won't check it.

Simple as that.
