No ad banner line in CNN.com in IE?

my home page is cnn.com

normally, there's an ad on the top of the page. i the host file mod and the ad space shows "page not found"

i just ghosted a laptop. this is the same image that i used for my desktop. i've been using my desktop for 6+ months.

the cnn.com page from the new laptop install doesn't even have the space for the banner on top of the page. i',m able to see more content.

How did that happen, and what did i do to lose that on my desktop? and how do i get it back (no banner, not even the place holder)?

You are allowing active x to run right?

active x settings are the same in both the dsesktop and laptop

Have you tried it with firefox, I fix every IE problem by installing firefox!

my question is why does my fresh install of WinXP on a new machine eliminate the banner ad AND the space the banner takes up while my old desktop, which used the same image, does not?

i made NO changes, and installed nothing. WTF?!

no.. on same dsl connection, my laptop had no banner nor the space for the banner. my desktop has the place holder for the banner.

then 6 hrs later, neither machine had banner or the space the banner takes up.

no virus, no spyware.

He's suggesting that maybe the CNN.com homepage itself changed while you were comparing.

i know. but that doesnt explain why it was different to begin with.

and i checked several times during the next hour trying to figure out why.

then 6hrs later, they were the same and i made NO changes
