Congratulations.

You just beat the car dealer at their own game. That was a classic example of a bait and switch operation.

So you got the car for $9,999? Did you run a CarFax on it just to be safe?

I would be VERY VERY VERY did I stress VERY?...hesitant on this vehicle. When something is booked 40% below bluebook THERE IS something funky going on with it.

Check the title, salvaged? Damage disclosure? SOMETHING. They don't just mark these things down that much for sh!ts and giggles.

Oh and by the way...you're a cheap ass bastard :)

Yes, car dealers are right down there with Real estate agents and small construction contractors.

My question is what are you going to do if you have problems with the car? You certainly aren't going to get decent service if you go back.

The funny thing is, they still haven't changed the on-line price.......
Looks like your a good haggler, AND you did your research. :D

Good luck with the new vehicle.

Badluck, you da man!

Although, I don't know why you would say it sucks. Sounds like you played the game and won.

You can look them in the eye and say "Remember when you're wrestling with a pig in sh!t, at sometime you come to realize the pig is enjoying it."

Nice work man, very nice!

I really like the whole thing about getting a voice recording of the salesman telling you it was $9999.....

heh just because KBB has it at 14k dont mean thats what it will sale for. around a say 98 jeep cherokee limited is listed at $17,400 but it goes for around 12k on most the dealerships.

resaleing it would be risky but good luck you never know. Though if it was me i wouldnt try it.

Good job though at beating them at there own game. If it was me i would have asked to talk the manager and owner and mentioned i taped the conversation and that what they did/doing is against the law. you could have sued and won. not to mention the dealership would have gotten a nice little fine.

NOT all dealerships are this way though. My father has owned/operated dealerships for well over 25 years and he will not work that way. heck you dont need to really. i fyou have good prices and treat people right you get just as many sales.

So did you actually tape the conversation or were you bluffing?

Either way, congrats to a job well done. Some of these car people are real a**holes and can take the pleasure out of getting a new car when you are forced to leave the dealership because they dont come through on promises.

Would you have really called your lawyer if they didnt offer the car for $9999?

So, any chance of you starting a car-buying/haggling service for ATOT?

Haha. After the stress that I went through today, I think I took a full year off my life. Well, it wasn't that bad, but damn it is stressful.

Oh, and in some states you have to have the other sides permission to tape a call. I dunno though, ask Linda Tripp about that stuff...heh....

I could probably do it. Its not a hot deal until you scream at someone and threaten legal action! well maybe not. but:

PsychoAndy's Used Cars: Our prices are so low we need to be committed to a mental faclilty!

I'd have to think long and hard about taking the car back there for service, even if it is free. Don't give them a chance to "even things up".

You got lucky. In Florida you have to tell the other party you are taping the conversation or it isn't legal.
