Probably to prevent Google from getting a browser. Google has whipped MS's butt in every venture they've competed against so far.
 
Well darn it, I read the synopsis from the site i found it at, but then I linked to the full story. That figures.
 
Well you know that Microsoft is dropping support on their IE browser in the Mac world. So that may mean they may venture out to acquire something. Right now they are recommending Safari!!

I'm sure that their recent decision to drop support for IE on Mac may be the reason why a story like this has come out.

IE for Mac is dead since Summer 2003, it never went past Version 5.x
