ive never see this before

HDD is a 40gb maxtor IDE, its a few years old but works fine, as i tested it on this comp

trying to install it in another comp, XP2400+ m gig of ram Shuttle Mobo - relativily new stuff

i have it on the end of the IDE ribbon like it should be, it shows up as Slave in the bios? i set the jumper to cable select - it still shows up as slave, i take the jumper off which is the "single drive/master setting" still shows up as slave

WTF is going on

i know the ribbon is fine because i had a 20gig Quantum HDD running on it like 3 hours ago and it was fine, had Xp installed and everything, just figured id use the bigger drive

the drive is fine, shows up in a USB enclosure just fine
anyone have any idea

Do you have it on the original data cable that it was working on or have you put it on another cable that was already in another computer ?

yea i fixed it by changeing the IDE ribbon, i must have fed the other on up
