vid card was grounding to the case...........duh

system rundown:

Epox 8RDA+
AMD XP2100+ not OC'ed
2 x Samsung 2700 256 mb in dual channel setup
Maxtor 80gb
Gainward TI4200 128 mb
Enermax 365 watt PSU
CDRW
fresh format and install of XP Pro on the new HDD

For some reason I can't set display probs above 600x480 8bit mode, I have tried vid drivers from 42.45 on down 30.82. same results, comp won't boot except in safe mode.

The vid card is fine, it was running in a KT400 mobo till yesterday when I swaped it over to this new build, works fine when I put it back in any of my other comps.

I can install a GF2 Pro 64mb card in the same comp and all is well with any ver of the Nvidia drivers...but if I shut down and install the TI4200 when I restart XP detects the new hardware and installs the drivers, as soon as I try to change the display props it goes to hell.. Only way it will reboot is safe mode, or last known good config, it then detects the new hardware and we start the cycle again.
with each restart with the TI4200 installed XP gives me an error, and sends an error message report.

Error report states: szAppName" Driver Display
App Ver 10DE0253A312910B0
sz mod name: NV_4disp.dll
sz mod ver: 6.13.10.3082 offset EAER706EA

this message changes the mod ver when I change drivers.

any ideas ? I have been fighting this for 2 days now, I know I could just use a diff card, but I want to use the TI4200.

I have formatted and installed XP 3 times total

anyone have any ideas

Go in to your BIOS and disable Fastwrites and AGP 8x and try booting it.

Do you have any overclock utilities installed for your GF2? If so, you may be trying to boot to an inoperable frequency for your board(seeing that you have a Pro this isn't likely). If you have coolbits installed, disable OCing and you have RivaTuner or the like, restore all settings to driver defaults and then uninstall the app and retry the GF4.

A couple of things you can try anyway.
