Hello,
I have a Dell Inspiron 4150 and as of two days ago, it's been *chugging* and I couldn't figure out why. So I disconnected all external devices (DVD-RW drive encosure and firewire card, USB mouse, and even the cdrw drive in one of my bays) but still no change. I have a P4 1.7M, 512MB DDR RAM, etc etc. Essentially, it would run fine but then all of a sudden things would just chug, and my hard drive would just thrash. Can anyone suggets what I can do? Do you think my HDD is dying? I've had one die before, but it didn't go like this.
Thanks!
UPDATE
I just went to my device manager, and found that my HDD is set to PIO mode and not Ultra DMA.....I have no clue how this could have happened, and even worse, I can't change it back.
Would this be the reason for my problems? I've tried the BIOS and within windows, but I can't get it back to Ultra DMA mode.
