It is known for sure that ATI will have PCI-X cards out in the next few months, could he use one of them for games and use the Quadro for rendering without too many problems?

ATI will have PCI Express, not PCI-X, there is a difference between the two. I believe there was an article on the front page a few weeks ago that talked about the differences.
