It's on the radio and also being reported from a lot of NJ state drivers.

The state police are on the "revenge" because people are ripping on them from the Jon S. Corzine car crash incident when they reported the state police driving of excess of 90mph before the crash.

Just a heads up for highway drivers.

This might be the day you do break the law (speed). I'd expect all the cases today to get thrown out.

I find it hard to believe a NJ judge is going to rule in your favor because the cop was being a "dick". Well... not unless you're "connected".

I was thinking of becoming a NJ state trooper... heard they're nuts though.

Who cares what they do... they're cops. When they go home, they sit & stew in their own puddle of piss. Alcohol & drugs are their only friends.

NJ Troopers have always been on the relaxed side when it comes to speeding IME & pretty much let you slide up to 20 mph over ...
hopefully they'll calm down soon and go back to what I consider to be reasonable enforcment of the law.

One thing I will say though, is that I've had many NJ Troopers just FLY up on me when I was in the Turnpike doing 75-80 mph in the center lane (along with everyone else) ... my guess is they were doing over 100mph, never mind 90 so the folks giving them grief arn't wrong.

That's been my experience too. When I used to work in PA I drove on 78 in NJ for 30 miles each way. I drove well above the speed limit, drove past plenty of cops in the median, and never got a second look. I've had cops come up behind me while I was speeding, I just get out of their way and they go right on by.

They may very well be upping enforcement, I don't know... won't affect me since I don't drive on the highways anymore.

I will say this though - our governor is a moron.

I would agree that most NJ state troopers are laxed in terms of speeding. They like it when you go over 15mph+ because they can slap a 3-4 point ticket + a major fine since it's on another penalty tier. Not to mention the prosecutors wont have any trouble throwing the book at you when you're doing a ridiculous speed over the limit.

And when they tail you, they expect you to slow down, and consider it a friendly warning.

I also remember when a friend of mine flicked his cigarette butt out the window and hit a state trooper on his wind shield. He speeded up to his tail and got on his loud speaker : "next time use an ash tray". Hah, never forget it. I think in NJ it's upwards of a 200 dollar fine for that so I'd say the state troopers got bigger fish to fry.

I'm pretty damn sure they are given drug tests every once in a while.

I drive on the turnpike a lot, and have once cruised beside a trooper doing 80. As long as you don't pass them, I don't think they mind at all. I never had any issues with them, although lately I see the empty cruiser "speed traps" along the way since the whole Corzine thing...

Its a $500 fine. I got pulled over on the Parkway driving down to AC after my cigarette butt smacked a Trooper in the windshield. He let me go with a warning luckily. Even more luckily he didnt see the three open bottles of beer... (Yes I know, but I was young and I was stupid... Dont do that any more)

so he was in the front seat w/o seatbelt when his state police driven car got in the accident!?

if so, is it normal for the govenor to ride up front in the limo?

No limo. They usually drive in GMC black trucks with a motorcade.

To be honest, most cops get into the job for the power. Sorry it is true. A have quite a few family members who are cops and I was a EMT now for a couple of years. There is nothing they dislike more then when someone points out a mistake. It knocks them off their high horse.

Don't forget that the gov was rushing down to capitalize on the whole Imus/Rutgers thing. Much like flies drawn to a steaming pile of offal he wanted to get some prime face time on all those national news broadcasts. It had all the elements pols love, insulted minorities, shock jocks going over the line, and a good pot stirring by Al Sharpton and crew.
