Casinos wouldn't close here...you can operate unless you have been specifically denied a lisence....besides, I think the fire department would be allowed to close before the Casinos.

i wish the goverment would trim some of the fat. stop the pork mainly. then maybe crap like this wouldnt happen.

I give Corzine a big thumbs up for having the Cojones to do this.

too bad, though, it wasn't because of cutting spending issues, rather than raising taxes.

heh this government thing bites ;x and its only going to end up giving more leverage to people and their whining of "ohhh new jersey sucks"

it sucks for all those people who are being out a job now. honestly, raise the tax to 7%/ its one penny more and wouldnt be terrible. or go to some wacky number like 6.25%. Its till lower than a good number of places and some pennies wont hurt consumers all too much but could end up being a huge help to the state and putting 50k+ people back in work.

as for the casinos 🙁 booo. they better reopen by my 21st birthday next week

one more penny here, one more penny there never hurt anyone. You've just bought into Corzine's strategy.

no wonder there were extra Mohegun Sun and Foxwoods buses this morning on the drive up to CT 😛

probably came directly from AC

it's the Gambling Addicts Express

Politicians could care less about anything, they don't understand or care about how it is to live "paycheck to paycheck."

Actually they do and generally do everything they can to stay in office so they never have to return to living like the ignorant masses that vote them into office seemingly thinking that there is some magic money tree that will allow big nanny government to fulfill every dream they have without taxing them.

No kidding. There isn't much that they will not do. Incumbency rates are ridiculously high in this country. People hate the politicians that are in office, so what do they do? Vote to keep them in office.😕

Depends. A man who successfully built his own personal fortune could be just the right person to run the government. That is assuming:
A) He started with nothing and got all his money by himself
B) He can get the lawmakers to agree with him
Good point. Versus some politicians in PA, notably one that I read about in a newspaper. He's getting $80K+/yr, and he's complaining that he needs a pay raise because he can't even get a credit card. Now let's see, they give credit cards to damn near anyone, including college students who are already incurring debt from student loans. So this guy's got to have horrible credit. Why would that happen? Because he sucks at managing money. And his solution? Give him more money.
This is the kind of person we have in office managing taxpayer money, people who can't even handle their own finances.

Edit: Ok, I found more information at The Reading Eagle's website. (Reading isn't a form of the word read in this case. Reading is a city, pronounced "redding.")
Anyhow:
1) The base salary for the legislators is $72,187.
2) The politician that first brought the issue of bad credit ratings to our attention, in an attempt to garner support for a pay raise, was PA House Speaker John M. Perzel (Republican. Who's surprised?). He claims that there are 30 members of the House that are in similar situations - they "can?t apply for a credit card because their credit?s so bad."

you'd have to be pretty dense to cut taxes when your government is already facing an enormous shortfall.

personally, I think Corzine is the only one in this situation who's not putting politics first. the people in the NJ state legislature don't want to do the right thing and negotiate a compromise because they're afraid it will hurt their reelection chances in november.

Ummm...CPA was talking about cutting spending. Not taxes.

It sounds like neither side is wanting a compromise.

A Democrat that wants to raise taxes? Surely you jest.

The partisanship spin is strong in this one! Like Republicans do any better:disgust:. Both political parties are equally inept in spending other people's money. For the record, I am a libertarian. This thread needs to be moved to P&N.
