Nixons revenge.

Nixons revenge.

Bushes pardoning of Libby confirms it. Nixon has reached out from the grave.
So many of the things happening today were started by Nixon. Many of the most incompetent and dangerous men who serve under Bush started out working for Nixon.

To start with the Reaganites are dead. Even Reagan wouldn?t pardon Ollie North on his way out the door. But the Nixonites were ready, willing and able to get Libby a pardon.
So Watergate lives! For those too young to remember Nixon didn?t only get impeached over covering up Watergate. For instance he ordered one of his assistants, Egil Krogh, to illegally break in to Daniel Ellsbergs psychiatrists office to obtain damaging evidence against Ellsberg. Nixon said it was for ?national security? Of course in no way shape or form was it for ?national security? but for political reasons.
Nixon went on television and boldly defended his actions. His exact words were ?when the President does it, its not illegal?
Sound familiar?
Sounds like Bush.

For those who don?t remember the core of Nixons supporters always have said that Nixon should have just destroyed the tapes (with the incriminating evidence).
And that Nixon would have survived impeachment if only he had put loyal supporters on the Supreme Court. When the issue of the tapes went to the Supreme Court it was decided on it?s Constitutional merits. Not the political persuasion the Justices. Thus came the idea of appointing blatantly political candidates only on the Supreme Court.
Sound familiar?
Sounds like Bush.

Nixon was a seriously damaged man. He was paranoid. And the people that he raised up into government were paranoid men. Cheney. Nuff said.
So in the end the survivors of government service under Nixon have become the government today.
And they believe in absolute Presidential power. They believe absolute secrecy. They believe getting caught is the only crime.
When Nixon resigned he admitted no guilt. He said he was resigning because he lost his ?political? support. So the Bushies set about controlling the campaign financing of Congress thru their K Street program. Control the money and you control your Congress.

Nixon would be proud.

I have to agree with your assessment of Nixon and GWB---but what this crap about giving Reagan a pass. He may have not have pardoned Ollie North---but he sure pardoned a pile of Iran Contra figures who are still loose and doing damage---Poindexter and Elliot Abrams spring to mind---each of which came up with some new GWB brainfarts with the latter jerk being the fellow who armed Fatah.

But I don't know about your---"Nixon would be proud." Because I think even Nixon would be appalled with GWB. I have always hated Nixon---but at least I could respect the morally bankrupt Nixon intellect and scholarship. Nixon had an almost encyclopedic knowledge of the world and the people of various nations----GWB is just a rather ignorant boob who downplays what intellect he has---and knows exactly nothing about people. Nixon tried to hide his dark side---GWB flaunts his dark side and takes seeming joy in getting away with things. And Reagan was all image and no substance.

But in fairness, idiot Presidents are not GOP monopolies. LBJ was also driven by a dark side of the ends justify the means. And I am sure some posters might mention a few other democratic Presidents.

But when it comes to almost pure evil without a single redeeming quality---GWB stands almost alone as posterboy for living a lie.

Show me an administration which hasn't done as Nixon has done in some form or another?

Johnson and Bay of Pigs run up? Using the FBI and IRS during Kennedy/Johnson years to reduce the threat from political opponents? Using academia to back the belief that distrust in government is a mental condition that is dangerous?

Hey, at least it took a war for GWB to kill more Americans than the previous administration... and both admins did as much to cover up the facts of what happened when Americans died as they could.

Face it, there are two Americas, that inside the beltway and the rest of us. Attributing all these actions as if Bush or Republicans invented them shows a narrow minded political hack.

So many of the things happening today were started by Nixon.

I hope you all remember and believe this statement in the future when presidents are in office and you blame every thing on them. It does not happen overnight. In the time to come we have to get past Bush Sr amd Bush Jr.

The master pardoner and teacher of Bush Jr was Bush Senior who pardoned all the people who could have fingered his part in Iran Contra.

And doesn't anybody remember the mysterious but timely death of William Casey?

To daveshel who reminds us--And doesn't anybody remember the mysterious but timely death of William Casey?

Yes I remember Casey--who died of an inoperable brain tumor--I kept waiting for him to recover and then testify that that part of his memory was destroyed by the cancer. But he died anyway. At least Casey would have had a legitimate medical excuse---but there sure seems to be an epidemic of I can't recall lately.

But the GHB line on Iran Contra was he was not in the loop---but Presidential papers suffer from no memory lapses and always recall even after the death of its authors. And GWB has sealed his daddies Presidential papers that should have been released years ago---inquiring minds want to know.
