Nitro RC cars, are they too much work?

I have been out of the RC scene for over 10 years. I used to have a Clodbuster and some other 1/10 scale onroads with a bunch of hop ups. I am wanting to get something again and have always been interested in nitro, namely a RTR nitro truck. I don't want the hassle of charging batteries and would like the runtime of gas. I don't have time to really spend building something and would like to be able to race around my property here and there.

I have only heard a nitro tunnel hull boat that screamed and I am not sure how this would fair in my neighborhood.

Are they too loud? Is there alot involved in breakin and routine maintenance? Are they too much of a PITA?

I was thinking about the HPI Nitro Rush RTR since I want to stay under $300.

I am interested in hearing opinions from users.

Nitro r/c cars are a blast, but are much more work than electrics. If you enjoy tinkering with engines in can be a fun kind of work.
:sun:

edit- yes they are a lot louder than electrics. Little fire breathing 30,000rpm engines tend to make some noise !

Would my wife and neighbors get pissed off at me? I will never forget how loud the nitro boat was running with the local damn wall as a backdrop. It was almost too much for my ears.

I want to be able to enjoy something with the hassle.

Nitro depends on how often you race or play. If you run casual you need to clean the car and lubricate the engine. This takes about 20 mins. If your run every other day or so, you need to do a nice thorough clean every week. You have to make sure your car runs is great condition. Also you have to tune your engine based on humidity and ambient air. You have to worry about having charged batteries for your rx. You have to worry about alot of stuff...are they more work yes for th cleaning ascpect but part wise I believe it equals a electric. With electric you have to worry about peak charging, brushes, battery conditioning. Nitro cars are lound...they just sound like a weedwacker with a tuned exhaust. Also nitro cars can smell pretty bad depending on what feul you run. I run trinity which is probably a nicer smelling fuel. Way out your options.

You may not want to get a HPi Rush but look into a Losi XXXT and a AE RC10gt cause you may want to race at a local track in the future.
