nissanusa.com = suck

They won't let me view their damn website with Opera.
Text

The browser you are using will not allow you to fully enjoy NissanUSA.com. We recommend you download the latest 6.x version of Netscape Communicator or the latest 5.x version of Microsoft Internet Explorer.

Wtf?? Why can't they let me decide if I can enjoy the site or not?? Instead they just refuse to show it to me. I don't get it. I'm not buying another Nissan.

So you were considering a Nissan, but aren't aren't going to deal with them now because their website won't work with Opera?

Man.. you must have it rough in life. 😛

It won't work with Safari either. Nissan's web designers are retarded asshats.

Who encourages people to use NETSCAPE? Idiots. :|

Ok so I wasn't considering buying a Nissan.. but if I were!!

I saved the site and tried to view it in Opera. The only problem is that the flash thing doesn't work. I don't know if it would work if I were viewing the actual site, but I don't see why it wouldn't.

did you try identify as msie 6.0?

Wow I didn't know they made him take his site down. Although it's good to see he at least still owns the domain.....
Too bad he registered the site before the on-slaught of UDRP. I don't even think in their deepest moment of depravity that a UDRP panel would not accuse Nissan Motors of attempted reverse domain name hijacking.....

1.) works fine if you change what browser opera identifies itself as -- hit f12 and pick msie 6.0 -- also, I still ID as opera and nissanusa works fine for me.

2.)the flash works fine, your opera config is prolly off. alt-p ->multimedia->find plugins

3.)I'm sure Nissan has enough money to have an full IA done and, like it or not, IE is the most popular browser followed by netscape. Mozilla is definitely more popular than opera because it's netscape. opera is prolly one of the least popular browser for windows, next to phoenix and ob1. I don't think nissan cares about you opening the browser that the vast majority of the internet uses instead of your preferred one because, like it or not, your browser has 2 major flaws that will keep it from ever being very popular.
- it's not a free browser like IE is.
- if you don't pay for it, you deal with advertisements. IE, as broken as it is, does not have this problem.

so don't rip on the designers because designers don't do a damn thing without the go-ahead from the higher ups.

I set it to ID as IE 6... was the first thing I tried! Then I tried reinstalling Flash player.

didn't work with phoenix either, not even with the user agent switcher set to IE6 or Netscape 6...

Yup, it's BS. After my Ethics class in the CS department, I got so mad at this crap, I sent some really nasty emails to Nissan, and they had personal replies to me, trying to identify their point of view. I was VERY impressed that they sent me those emails in return, but yeah....it's f***ed up. I think I still have one or two of those emails backed up somewhere if you want me to post them. They basically tried saying how they offered a substantial amount of money to him for his domain name. But basically, there was no way he was going to ever win. And what's even MORE BS is that he had this domain registered a LONG time ago, it was registered for a Computer Business, and it was his last name which his FAMILY had for a long time. They are a bunch of bastards for that. They didn't get the domain name.....to BAD! But I don't see how they benefit at all by having the site what it is right now. Because even before, he had a link to the NissanUsa.com website.

Anyways....corporate bastards. But I figure all big companies regularly practice crap like this.

Your CS Dept has an ethics class?

While it's good to know that nissan never got what they wanted, it might have been better to take nissan's "large offer" as this doesn't really help him at all. If you followed the site b4 the ruling, you could see that business wasn't doing well because of all the crap they got from nissan. on the other extreme, tho, I would have put up a meta refresh referencing that page, then pulled a whitehouse.com on them. (whitehouse.com is not work/school friendly if you're going there).
