Thinking of buying one soon. Just wanted to see if anyone had an opinion on them.

I own one (2004 model) and absolutely love it! Are you buying the 2005 model?

The negative is being a gas guzzler. That's it.

I would recommend you to get Xterra and be part of Skoorb's Nissan Fanboys! :D

I test drove one...I wasn't impressed with the plastic interior. I've got some friends that bought a 2002 model new. It was rearended in an accident by a lincoln and there was like zero damage to the Xterra when the Town Car got totalled.... They seem stable, but I just can't get over the initial interior cheapness...

SUVs are fun, no matter who makes em, just buy a roll cage and then you are safe

I had an accident with deer and left me a minor damage on the front bumper. I'm very impressed with their stability.

oh deer. you know, in some states the state patrol carry deer tags buring the season in case you hit one with your car.

Have a 2003 and have had no problems with it. I did do a voluntary recall for added sealent around the gas tank in places that put alot of salt down in the winter. Other than that the gas mileage is not the best but I only put about 6k miles a year so it's not a big issue for me.

I bought a 2004 model in July 2004 and it's almost a year old. I only put about 7k miles in it.

only complaint: bumpy ride, if you want it to drive like a sedan, get a Pathfinder

I've been in the MY2005 Xterra quite a few times during the last year because of my job and it is a great vehicle. However, it is a SUV and drives more like a truck versus a car. The VQ4.0 is a very torqy engine with alot of pickup to get you going. You should get around the same gas mileage as the previous model with the 3.3L. The interior of the 2005 is much improved compared to the previous model as well.

By the way, I've got a 2002 Pathfinder and sold my 1993 Pathfinder early this year with 250K+ miles. I had no major issues with the vehicle.

You mean Murano.
Pathfinder is still truck based.

Previous generation Pathfinder is unibody though, and isn't based on the Frontier like the XTerra is. The new one is the same as the XTerra except for the roof.

I have a 2000 Xterra. Still going strong. Plan to drive it into the ground.

For those complaining

a. Basic interior

That the idea. It's a back to basic SUV. Some of us don't want or need a bunch of crap in our truck which leads to

b. It rides like a truck

News flash it is a truck. Want something that rides like a car? Buy a dam car.

2005 is a new model.

Different exterior and brand new interior.

It's supposed to be better:

Check these cars out:

Toyota Highlander
Honda CR-V
Nissan Frontier
Toyota Tacoma

they get bad gas mileage??? What is considered bad...I get 10 MPG in town and 14 MPG highway, if you want to talk bad gas mileage. The engine isn't big enough to be a gas guzzler

bad gas mileage is relative to what you are going to be using the vehicle for. sya, you buy the suv to take it off roading and for fun, the gas mileage wont matter as much as if its gonna be your daily driver. if you need that much room, buy a minivan or something.

10mpg is pretty bad. I drive local (city) and I get a realistic 14mpg on a 12/15mpg rated, 10-year old Rodeo. It was one of the worst for '95s. I hope you're getting more than 10mpg on a mid-size SUV.

Holy balls. That's lower MPG than the Land Rover LR3 V8 I'm looking into!!!

I rode in one (2002 model) w/ cloth interior and here's my thougts:

Exterior: AWESOME!
Interior: HORRIBLE! Plastic, cheap, zero leg room in the rear, just horrendous.

However if they've redone the interior you may be in luck, just DON'T buy a used one.

As was stated before, the Xterra is a truck-based SUV, not a car lifted and extended and badged as an SUV.
