Look to replace our 2005 Ford Explorer. We want to get something with 3rd row seating. You can find decent prices on the Pathfinder and Outlander. We don't see many of them around and they both have CVTs in them, which seem unusual for cars this size. Just wanted to see if anyone have experience and / or thoughts on these.

No desire for a Minivan? - the new Pacifica is getting rave reviews and can be had new for around $23K.

Pathfinder CVT has gotten terrible reviews.

Pathfinder Transmission Class-Action Lawsuit
In January 2015, a class-action lawsuit was filed on behalf of 2013-2014 Pathfinder owners. The lawsuit says Nissan failed to warn consumers about the CVT transmissions that can violently shake when accelerating between 15–30mph.

The lawsuit alleges Nissan concealed the defective transmissions and continued to sell the vehicles through dealerships, even as the complaints kept pouring in.

I talked about a minivan but the wife shot it down. Not a huge fan of Chrysler stuff. She wants AWD, and it is helpful getting of of our driveway, but we could live out it.

Those may be the worst 2 in the segment. The Sorento may even be better! Ug. Are you just wanting the cheapest new one? Outlander will win that. What happens when they finally go belly up in the US though?

Just trying to weigh the options available. Found a Mazda CX-9 in the ballpark, more miles then I wanted. Not a lot of good options locally so we will have to travel a little, just trying to narrow things down a bit.

The flex is a nifty looking vehicle, and does come with optional AWD, but I don't think it is full time AWD. It also has an optional 3.5l turbo v6 that's pretty dang peppy.

So after looking around we went with a 2014 Honda Pilot. Couldn't find any Explorers, Traverses at the same price point. The Pilot is a LX model and pretty basic and it seemed everything else was loaded up.
