Heck for me it seems like the Duramax just came out yesterday and now they are announcing the new Turbo for it in Jan-Feb to bring it up to 560lbs of TQ

Nissan seems to be making a habit of putting mediocre interiors in their cars, then trying to spruce them up a year or two later when everyone complains about it (they did the same thing with the Altima).

How about just making the interiors nice to begin with?! :frown:

They want to see how crappy they can make the interior (therefore saving money) and then look at the complaints. If no one had complained about the Altima or 350Z interiors, they wouldn't have changed a thing. But after all the reviews and customers ripped Nissan a new a$$hole over the interior quality, they decided to do something about it in the second model year.

Yep it's all about money. I'd generally buy a car with a poorer interior if it means a bigger output engine for the same price. In the case of the altima though its interior was utter sh*t.

Not sure that's such a great brand-building strategy, but hey, both the Altima and Z have won awards in spite of their interiors, and their sales have been very good. I guess maybe that Ghosn guy knows what he's doing. ;)

These changes are very insignificant, and they certainly don't give the Z interior a "luxurious" feel. Of course, I have no problem with the Z interior as it is.

Why is it that I detect a faint hint of "RENAULT DAUPHINE" in the new Nissan's?

that and they have no money. Well at the time of Altima launch anyway.

Their strategy is to lure new customers based on exciting and innovative products (240hp family sedan, oddball SUV, cheap sportscar, oddball premium SUV with hp) and then slowly increase interior quality as the revenues start increasing.

By their second round of cars, I can garantee they will have quality interiors (maybe even better than quality of their early 90s cars).

Honda has some, but not as bad. My parents bought the current civic it's first model year and it had an ECU related recall, but we never noticed any problems. I have a first year, current gen accord and no real problems so far (very minor interior buzzing).

I will say though, I think Toyota is better than anyone on this issue. I've putzed around boards for the big three japanese makers for various makes and the one where I can't remember someone bitching about quality is a corolla forum actually.
