So I can purchase an AWD Juke or a used 2010 S40 Volvo.

I am coming from a cadillac CTS, I hate the thing. The rear differential just died on me. It only had 65k miles 🙁

Style and safety really play a role in my decision.

Those are two really dissimilar vehicles. If you didn't like the Caddy reliability then I don't think you really want a Volvo.

Have you looked at anything else?

I just did a quick search on the major players. I want to keep the cost at or around 20k. No more than 22k if possible. If possible, FWD or AWD 😛

Did you get the recall done on it (if its a 2005+ model)?

Call Cad. HQ. They may cover some of the repair.

Volvo is better than average for European cars, for what it is worth.

I don;t see the S40 and Juke being compitors. They seem differant enough that makes me ask why those 2?

I would pick the Nissan if reliability is your top concern.

I personally don't own a car, but I am a ZipCar member here in DC. I can select from a wide range of cars to drive, among them, a BMW 328xi and a Volvo S40 T5. After having driven both extensively, it's the Volvo that puts the smile on my face. Not the BMW. I find the Volvo to be more peppy. Fit and finish on the Volvo is much better. And stock audio on the Volvo is light-years ahead of the BMW! The Volvo has never given me cause for concern, but it's also not my job to maintain it.

There was a recall on this? I just had it repaired by a local shop as the warranty was the same on both. I wonder if I could have them pay for some of the bill?

Yea all 2005+ CTS Gen1 had a recall on the rear diff seal. The 03 and 04's had the good seal.

Call Caddy and see, they may do something since it is a known and recall issue.

With your req's, I'd maybe look at a previous generation Subaru Legacy GT or an Acura TSX.

S40. Don't get work done at the dealer though, find an independent shop.

Average road life for a Volvo is around 20 years, it should last you a while and retain good resale value.

I would say neither...

Juke is awesome in principle and is supposed to be a blast to drive...but oh how it is ugly.

S40 is a BLAH of a car...mazda 3 is the same car + fun.

If I had to pick between the juke or the S40...I'd definitely get the Juke. I'd rather have a solid/fun car than one I think looks good.

Juke, i finally saw one on the road. Its a neat car but i dont think the looks works for me.

often times a S40 and a GTI butt heads and 4/5 times a GTI comes up on top in almost everything. I would least throw in a GTI as a testdrive even if you dont care about it car.

But i rather just drive the CTS. So what if the rear diff blows. Rear diffs on cars are easy bolt-on $500-1000 type of things and your good to go.

Any reason why you are looking at these 2 cars only OP? Seems like there are a lot better options out there.

i saw a juke on the road for the first time the other day. it doesn't look as offensive in person.
if it had 6pd + awd + turbo, i'd be all over it.

Lol I considered an S40T5 and a GTI as well, ended up with the GTI.
