Nissan GT-R GPS-remove-limiter system turns out to be a piece of crap.

Cliffs:
Only works at approved tracks.
Afterwards requires a $1000 inspection or warranty is void.
Can't take aftermarket wheels.
Can't take intake mods.

GT-R owners here in the U.S. won't have to worry about the speed limiter/track day issue. Nissan has said that the GPS system won't be implemented here in the States, but the future of tuning the GT-R remains questionable.

Dont worry it wont.

Wow, that's totally fucked. Why would anyone buy a car with that much manufacturer nannying going on? 111mph? I see 80+mph on a daily basis when I drive in to work in my stock Nissan Maxima...90mph isn't extreme in that car either. Hell, a 350Z can go 150mph without restrictions of any kind.

Build a supercar that can only go 111mph? What the hell is the point? That is super weak...

The 111mph speed limiter is for JAPAN VERSIONS ONLY. They have tight speed controls there and the GPS system removes the limit when at a SANCTIONED JAPANESE RACE TRACK.

For the love of Godzilla...

Because as fbrdphreak said, by the law, 111 MPH is speed limit for VIRTUALLY ALL THE CARS IN JAPAN. This limit applies to no matter if it's Toyota, Hyundai, or Ferrari. Heck, even highway police patrol cars have this limit, lol.

Even super car like GT-R, it can't be exception.

Now in US, we don't have such law, and we won't have any speed limit except maybe for safety reason.

Holy crap, who knew that "Tokyo Drift" was actually accurate.:Q

(In my defense, I saw it on the plane. While flying to Tokyo.)

The aftermarket wheel problem isn't a problem at all. The light they're talking about is the the TPMS, Tire Pressure Monitoring System. Nissan offers it on ALL their cars, and it's no big deal to install TPMS sensors on aftermarket wheels. Any wheel/tire shop that can't do that shouldn't get your business.

*EDIT* Also, the light is not the usual CEL or anything like that. TPMS has its own light. Even if you did install wheels yourself or by an incompetent shop with no TPMS valve stems, it has no affect on anything besides whether the light on the dash is lit or not.

I guess forget about Honda/Toyota owned tracks like Fuji, Motegi, and Suzuka then :p
