is there another japanese sports car line that evokes the kind of emotion of a Nissan/Datsun "Z" cars?

mb the Mazda RX7?

surely not the Toyota Supra.

mb the Acura NSX (w/o the history of the Z car obviously).

The Supra does count, not so much because of the stock config as the mods that people did, and the bulletproof engine (once you torqued down those head bolts!).

The rex is pretty good too...the skyline is legendary over there, but never really came here in quantity. The NSX didn't have enough of a run to be "legendary", plus it was too expensive. Legendary cars are affordable, like the Mustang.

The Rx7 is should be up there. I loved the MR2's but those didn't last long and the newer gen's aren't as nice as the turbocharged older ones...

Porsche 911, BMW M3...

OK, affordable or long-running. You need a legacy...either everyone's buying them and modding them, or they've been around for decades and have always been good.

Exactly. The NSX was too expensive to be a legendary car. Affordable cars like the 911, M3, Corvette Z06, Mustang, those are all legendary cars. Whereas the Aston Martins and Ferraris are in an entirely different realm.

hmm.. I can only think of the Z and the RX7. I would LOVE to have any generation of either car. Maybe later in life, when I have a 20 car garage :p ((dreams the impossible haha))

In America at least, the Z has the most tradition. I owned a 1986 300ZX Turbo and I currently own a 1991 300ZX Twin Turbo.

I also like the other Japanese sports cars that jumped on the scene in the early/mid 90's such as the SupraTT, RX-7, and 3000GT. It was an all-star class.

It really was. We'll likely never see such a golden age of high powered competition again.

911's retails at $71300
NSX retails at $75462
ZO6 is $64890

now we have the lighter, faster Lancer Evo, WRX's, 350Z, soon the skyline GTR, and hopefully a new supra and a faster RX8.

But now the M3, 911, and especially the z06 have reached or are close to the 6 figure mark.

WTF? the NSX was square in the 911 and Z06's price range. and it was produced for about 15 years, which is a hell of a run for a model that was nearly unchanged the entire time. no car that people have mentioned so far has run that long without needing a complete overhaul.

that said, i don't think america has had the same love affair with it that they have with other cars. and all the ones that are left are fvcking riced out pieces of trash. it makes me cry to see the cars destroyed like that.

Lancer = huge meh
WRX = good
350z = nothing compared to the old ones
Skyline = we'll see when it gets here :)
RX8 = don't make me laugh

lancer is faster than the Sti (and looks better IMO... what with the alfa-inspired WRX grill)
the 350z is a bargain compared to the old one
the japanese has swapped the 13B into the RX8... and showed that the new chassis can handle more power than the naturally aspirated engine that's in there now

I wasn't arguing FOR his point...the 911 and M3 are not "affordable" cars

I could accept a 350 if it had a TURBO!
