Anyone else playing? It's friggin tough, tougher than the souls games maybe. Plus there's a lot more to learn/deal with in terms of stats/items/gear etc etc. More difficult enemies too, it seems like.

It looks awesome and I definitely want to play it but right now I have a huge backlog so I won't even be able too get to this game until later this year. I really like the setting this game takes place in and definitely look forward to playing it.

That's exactly where I'm at. I'll surely buy this game because it looks like something I will really love, but in the last couple of weeks I bought the entire Souls series (Demon's on PS3, 1-3 on PC) and at least a couple of those are coming first. And now that I bought a PS3 and can play Metal Gear Solid 4 I want to go through that series too (I have only played some of the first so far). So my backlog is so long I might even wait a few months to play Horizon Zero Dawn, which is funny since it's one of the games that made me buy a PS4 after seeing how great it looked in actual gameplay at E3 2016.

Never played a Souls* game, but decided to pick this one up because it's Team Ninja (even if the founder is gone). I'm liking it so far after 3 main missions. Regular encounters are very fair fights, just the perfect difficulty balance I think. I'm very slow at figuring out bosses though, which leads to some frustration, but then once I beat them it's just all the more satisfying.

*I have Demons Souls from PS+ and bought Bloodborne on sale but never played either. Weird that I got hyped enough for this to buy full price. I guess this will be my first Souls-type game, then I'll try the others.

I'd personally have preferred a Ninja Gaiden inspired game(I loved them on Xbox and PS3) rather than a Souls inspired game(which I did not like).

I don't have the patience for these types of games. Imtried with Dark Souls and Bloodborne but the controls always felt clunky as if to make the game harder than it should be. I also prefer the Ninja Gaiden games.

I'm a huge Souls fan so I'll definitely be checking this game out.

Made it to the second region, and did the first main quest and a couple side quests there. Despite being overleveled, I find I'm constantly short on cash. I buy very few items, but if you have weapons with good abilities that you want to level up (Soul Forging) it is very expensive!

I put this down for a while but picked it up again last week and have put a decent amount of time into learning the ins and outs and it's gotten easier. But damn the learning curve was steep. Plus now I have to finish up so I can play the dark souls dlc

Ninja Gaiden Black, for Xbox. If you do not have access to OG Xbox, then the PS3 Ninja Gaiden Sigma is the same game but with minor changes. Generally the fanbase prefers Black.

2 for Xbox 360 and Sigma 2 for PS3 are generally seen in a similar light - fans prefer original Microsoft version. I'm actually sort of on the disagreement here because I don't play it on the highest difficulty setting which is where they are nitpicking. I like that Sigma 2 reduces enemy count and buffs their health, simply because I can get longer combos.

2 / Sigma 2 are not as good as 1. The level design is a huge step back. But I will say 2 really did justice to my favourite weapon, the Vigoorian Flail, adding another upgrade level for airborne combos. I wish 1 had that.

3 is complete garbage.

Finally picked up a PS4 Pro and grabbed this game. So far, it's basically Dark Souls, but I've only put a little bit of time in it. Liking it so far.

I got this a couple of days ago and man this game is tough. Especially early on because I'm so used to the Dark Souls control scheme after playing Bloodborne, Demons Souls, and Dark Souls this year. So I'd keep hitting circle to dodge when it's X in Nioh, or R1 for the quick attack when it's square in Nioh.

The crafting system looks really cool. I wonder if I should be selling the blue and yellow items I'm not using instead of breaking them down for raw materials though.

After spending a lot more time with the game I think it's best to offer unnecessary items for amrita to level up. Then switch to disassemble for materials (or start off with a combo of both)

Eventually selling for gold when leveling costs a lot and you have a stockpile of materials

The last patch and dlc added a lot of item additions making things even more complex. It's much more addictive than dark souls because of this loot system that encourages grinding for items. I think I should quit

The amrita for offering is so low though. What do you think of the DLC? Is it a must like The Old Hunters was for Bloodborne?

I mostly sold everything to finance soul matching. Note that the costs grow exponentially. It's only really worth doing once, maybe twice if you having something very nice.

Exponentially in level? Or in rarity? Or in both?

$$$

If you want to soul match something three times you will go broke.

until you level up a bunch, I found it pretty useful as far as I can remember. whatever works for you though! it look me some time to get into reforging so maybe that's why I found the amrita more helpful. I don't remember old hunters exactly but for nioh I'm not quite sure. You might be able to get higher level equipment but I'm not certain it's higher than the normal final area. I'm not exactly sure if it was the patch or the dlc that added new items + effects. For $10 it's worth it, though

also, soul matching is the only way to progress. you'll need to match items way more than 3 times, especially for weapons. it's expensive but 100% necessary. It might not be needed until you get to end game, but to get further you're going to want 150 level divine items leveled up as much as possible. cost should not be an issue

OMG Hino-enma has to be the most difficult early game boss I have ever fought in a game. She is way harder than the dual gargoyles in Dark Souls. Is the whole game this tough? If so it's way tougher than any of the Souls games I have played (namely Demons Souls, Dark Souls, and Bloodborne). I must have fought her 20 times and I swear at least 5 of those times I got her within a hit or two of death and then she'd grab me and suck away a bunch of my life. I haven't been that frustrated by a game since Ninja Gaiden on the NES (I wonder if Ninja Gaiden Sigma on PS3 is just as tough lol).

I almost break my controller on this boss. I really hate her paralyze attack. We could easily defeat her by increasing our defense. BTW, did you stock lots of acupuncture when you defeat her?

Nah I blew all my needles the first two times I fought her. I didn't think the paralyze attack was too hard to dodge though. She almost never hit me with the paralysis attack after the first couple of times I fought her. What I thought made her really hard was I couldn't do the key pulse after hitting her because I'd keep getting grabbed and fed on if I didn't immediately jump back after getting my two hits in every time she showed an opening (usually after blocking the spin attack or dodging her flying attack).

Remember that you can move much faster with light weight equipment. Once I switched to a light weight style I found bosses much easier. I prefer staying below 30 if possible.

I have been playing with B level agility (eg equipment weight < 70%). Is there an enormous difference in ki usage with A level agility (equipment weight < 30%)? Does armor just not matter in this game just like in Dark Souls? other than the special effects you can put on it)

In the Souls games I always use extremely light weight armor and fast weapons since armor seems to hardly matter at all (compared to level) when it comes to how many times you can get hit in Souls games.

There is a massive difference in movement from the 30s vs 70s. Give it a try.

Armor matters, but boss fights are all about figuring out the pattern. I rarely found them to be a war of attrition where I can out damage soak them. I had trouble dodging patterns that I "thought" I had figured out because I was too slow. Low weight helps enormously with this.
