OK, so I have a Wii, and DSL. So I figure I can hook the two up. I had a wired router sitting in a box in my basement that I don't use because I only have the one computer. Fire the sucker up, get it configured, run the cable to the Wii, find the old USB network adaptor, plug it all in and fire up the Wii.... doesn't work! Turns out the Wii uses a proprietary USB network adaptor!!!!!! SCREW YOU NINTENDO!!! WHY DO YOU MAKE ME ANOTHER 20 DOLLAR PIECE OF JUNK SO I CAN HOOK UP MY WII THAT I PAID 250 FOR!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhh

Caveat emptor.

I like the fact that it comes with a wireless NIC. The 360 should have come with one instead of the damned wired connection.

I didn't buy the thing so I could use it online... I just thought since I had the stuff I'd use it, but alas, I cannot. Don't diss the wireless router. Why would I buy one when I only have one desktop computer in the house? when I was using it, it was for the xbox in the same room....

but a wii would probably never max out a wireless connection anyway...espically on dsl. Also don't see how wired is easier consider you have to run wire anywhere you need a connection at...

Everything else about the system is proprietary - at least they don't charge you $99 for the adapter like M$ does.

THe other argument is wired is far more reliable, especially if you live in an apartment maybe where 2.4ghz is crowded as hell.

Not everything is proprietary. It uses standard SD cards for saves and downloads and whatnot.

I gave up on wireless for gaming, but the wii does very well with it for updates and such.

Oh an OP, a wireless router is 40 bucks, go buy one!

$40 for a wireless router vs $20 for the adapter he could buy to use it with his existing stuff....

And, simpler to keep secure - absolutely no worries. Since I don't have a laptop that I carry from room to room, it would be pretty retarded to throw out a perfectly functional router and perfectly functional wires simply so I can replace them with something wireless that does the exact same thing with zero added benefits. Although, I'm considering switching to wireless simply so I can have a computer in my barn (to play MP3's, keep track of animal data, and for a video feed.)
