Nintendo Wii

I have not been following gaming consoles for a while now and I was just wondering what the graphics on a Wii will be like?

How does it compare to other consoles and PC's?

The hardware isn't nearly as good as PS3 or Xbox 360 AFAIK. It uses a motion sensing remote to play which looks good.

Uh,.... from what I've read,.... a little bit better than the Xbox,....... not the Xbox 360.
The Xbox.

I'm still picking up one,....

Should be comparable to 360 and PS3 on an SDTV or EDTV. 360 and PS3 will decimate it graphics-wise on an HDTV, though. Wii only supports resolutions up to 480p.

But it's (relatively) cheap, so if the unique controller and first-party titles pique your interest, it makes sense to pick one up alongside a PS3 or 360. Otherwise don't bother.

I thought the graphics of the Wii will be the same or better than the Gamecube, since it's more of a "Revolution" type of console, with the whole swinging the remote kinda stuff.

I will inevitably find myself purchasing one. I am looking forward to first party games, such as Twilight Princess, SSMB Brawl, and yes, even Mario Galaxy.

Excite Truck doesn't appeal to me. With Zelda, I'll only be picking up Super Monkey Ball at launch. After finishing those two games, may decide to get Rayman. Those crazy bunny minigames look interesting.

BTW, what has Nintendo said about the downloadable games at launch? Are the N64 Zelda's going to be available for download at launch?

no n64 zeldas at launch.
list can be found here
from what I've heard, they will release more downloadable games every month, something like 10 per month. But I haven't heard anything about what games are coming when.

The graphics will not be competitive with the PS3 or Xbox 360. It also does not offer HD resolution, or a next-generation DVD player (i.e Blu-Ray or HD-DVD).

However, the Wii is generating a lot of excitement because of its innovative motion-detecting controllers. Every review I have read so far about the Wii has been extremely positive.

Wiki

Nintendo is claiming that their target audience is not just hardcore gamers. They are targeting EVERYBODY. Nintendo's view is that videogame consoles and more specifically, their console controllers, have evolved to the point where your average person is not willing to even try to spend time trying to figure out how to manipulate little figures on the TV screen. They have created a controller that is so intuitive and easy to use, that ANYONE can start playing immediately, and have a lot of fun.

If you look at the best-selling PC game of all time (The Sims), you'll see that this game succeeded because it attracted non-hardcore gamers, which is a much bigger market than just hardcore gamers.

Nintendo wants to expand their market to include not just the gamers, but the gamer's girlfriends, parents, and grandparents. I hope they succeed.
