I have to disagree with you on this point. Times have changed, now that there is XBL, I can see myself playing Gears, and a couple others, multiplayer, for a long time to come.Originally posted by: Sraaz
But you know, every system is the same way. No one can honestly say they constantly play the same console for, hell, even a year straight. There has never been a system where there were enough good games spread out throughout a year that it was constantly played.
I definitely see where you're coming from with this, but I would think that there are also plenty of people who aren't patient and persistent enough to get to that level where you want to compete in multiplayer for that long. Anyone familiar with Counter-Strike's online community would be a fool to completely deny your point, but I think there are many that do not have that level of dedication.
But perhaps I'm just speaking for myself since I'm so terrible at console FPS online that my Gears of War Kill : Death ratio is around 1:15. And at least half of my deaths are at the hands of AT's mad0maxx. 😛

That's a 3 year old game, so I'm going to have to disagree with you 🙂
I believe Sraaz overstated his point by saying "No one can honestly say they constantly play the same console for, hell, even a year straight."
It's not a surprise that a lot of people still play Halo 2. I don't see how showing statistics from the outlier that is by far most popular game on the entire service entirely refutes my point that "there are also plenty of people who aren't patient and persistent enough to get to that level where you want to compete in multiplayer for that long." I already cited an exception to my belief in Counter-Strike, if you want to add Halo 2 under that umbrella, you're welcome to do so.
Finding exceptions to my speculation doesn't mean that's necessarily the rule amongst all/most/the majority of/many xbox live gamers. My original purpose of posting in response to DAPUNISHER is that while multiplayer does add replay value, many people are not going to be satisfied playing the same game for years or even months on end. I believe that for all the Counter-Strike, Halo, or WoWs addicts there are more gamers that would prefer a variety, whatever their reasoning may be.
Mine is that I suck at many competitive multiplayer games. 😛 Give me co-op any day.
