I could've sworn the original playstations were $800 when they first game out, and that system did great. I remember my family went to go look at systems, but we ended up spending $400 on a Panasonic 3DO because they promised they machines would be upgradable to play DVD's. Man was that a bad purchase!

NO. :p:)

On eBay maybe :Q. I think original MSRP was $299.99.

I think the PC and Wii will be the platforms to game on. I'm personally going to miss the next GPU cycle (I figure my X1900XTX will be fine for a year) so I can afford to get a Wii later this year (assuming I can find one).

Heh, I'm not busting your cajones, but I wanted to do a little research to find out the timeline for myself.

Playstation debuted: 09.01.95 (North America, though another spot in the article says the official launch date was 09.09.95)
eBay founded: 09.04.95

Not a big deal, but I was surprised at how close the two events I just happened to be researching occurred.

Amazing how much the Wii is still dominating the polls. Come November 19, lets see how well it will actually do.

Athlon 64 X2 4200+ overclocked, GeForce 7800GT 256MB, Creative X-Fi Platinum, and a 19" Samsung LCD I've had for I think 2 or 3 years. I'll probably buy a Wii now and a computer a year or more from now (think GeForce 8 with a K9) so I voted Nintendo Wii.

Haha, my computer's over two, and I won't be upgrading for at least another year.

My friend states his computer is over four years old and he does not see himself upgrading anytime soon... power to the 256MB ram!

My computer is really starting to show it's age. I'm trying to push more out of it than what it's got :( plus I'll be going to college. Computer, and a Wii because it's good times.

I guess I had it mixed up with the 3do then. I thought they were both really expensive though.

Because of the reason I stated you tard. Plus if you have so much information please do not try to hijack my thread... make your own!

As a strict gaming platform, computers are far too expensive. (that said it's what I have, so whatever) :)

The new Nintendo Wii controllers are wierd... I mean if you want to have four players you would have to buy four nunchucks and four remotes and considering that one nunchuck costs twenty dollars and one remote costs forty dollars with a total of sixty dollars per set of one controller thus making four sets of controllers two hundred and forty dollars. Then if you want to play legacy games you have to buy a legacy controller which is an additional twenty dollars which is not included in the initial Nintendo Wii console system. So if you wanna play an old Nintendo Gamecube game such as Mario Party then you have to shell out another eighty bucks for four more controllers. Then the games are gonna be at least fifty bucks a piece. So you got...

Four Players
249.99 Console (with one set of controllers)
180.00 Three Additional Wii Controllers
100.00 Two Games

529.99 + Taxes = Your Total
+80.00 Four Legacy Controllers
609.99 + Taxes = Your Total

Two Players
249.99 Console (with one set of controllers)
60.00 One Additional Controller
50.00 One Game

359.99 + Taxes = Your Total
+40.00 Two Legacy Controllers
399.99 + Taxes = Your Total

Now for the bare minimum...

One Player
249.99 Console (with one set of controllers)
50.00 One Game

299.99 + Taxes = Your Total
+20.00 One Legacy Controllers
319.99 + Taxes = Your Total

I mean I have a Nintendo GameCube and the power supply but no AV cables, no controllers and no games. I dunno if I should buy the stuff for the GameCube and not buy the Wii or just wait for the Wii and buy that...

All price information related to the Nintendo Wii was based upon this link which is stickyed to the Nintendo Message Boards Wii Forums.

I have a 360 w/LCD, and my PC is somewhat capable of playing modern games (it handles Source very well with nice settings).

I think the PSX was perhaps the best console ever (just about tied with SNES), but I don't see myself buying a PS3 before it's about $300 fully loaded. The Wii intrigued me at first, but for the time being it's nothing to me but a gimmick. A very neat gimmick, perhaps, but I see nothing for me that is a system seller.

I'll be sticking with my current setup, eventually caving in and buying a Wii. Much later down the line I'll maaaybe consider a PS3.

Your post was hilarious. Really. You managed to manipulate the price of the Wii to be the same as a PS3. Good job! But it's not really a fair comparison.

PS3 - $600
3 additional controllers - $150
2 games - $140
--------------------
$890!

The Wii is looking a LITTLE better. Then you can subtract the 4 gamecube controllers unless you plan on playing a lot of old 4 player games.

And BTW, the Wii comes with a game. And you don't need a Gamecube controller to play it. So your "bare minimum" price list is not exactly the "bare minimum."

To summarize your pretty shitty post:
- a Wii controller costs $10 more than its competitors

unless your computer has a pentium 4 2.4Ghz+ or an amd athlon 64 2800+, then i dont think you need an upgrade in the PC department just yet.

nintendo wii is a definite buy because of zelda. period.

ps3...that'll be very expensive, so just sit tight and wait.

You could get it on the GameCube. Used Gamecubes go for $59 retail.

But I'm still buying a Wii and the Wii version of Zelda. :)

there is no use trying when mad0maxx has already made up his mind. And besides, people fail to realize that the tax alone on a $600 ps3 is $42 while tax on a wii is $17. Bottom line is, the wii is going to be significantly cheaper no matter how much you manipulate the values. But for the people who must enjoy HD games, might as well get a 360 for $200 less. You can get a very decent graphics card/MB/CPU/RAM for $600 that can probably kick the crap out of any console provided that you harvest the other stuff from your old system.
