anyone know if i can use another wifi adapter for the wii or does it have to be the nintendo one? I am seeing some on ebay for pretty cheap but they aren't made by nintendo.

also, does the nintendo adapter work with other things, like laptops?

yes it is.

i don't have a wifi router. this thing plugs into your pc and acts as a wifi router or something i guess so you can use the wifi capability without having to buy a wireless router. although, now that i think about it, at $35-40 i could probably get a wifi router anyway.

Thereotically a WAP is a WAP, just because it isn't nintendo ceritified doesn't mean it shouldn't work. Although, there have been cases where in-line Wireless Bridges don't work with consoles well (this isn't what you're looking for anyway), that may be a different idea entirely.

so anyone have any recommendations for a good cheap wireless router?

i don't have anything else that would require wireless though. and would it slow down my net connection compared to wired? isn't wireless 54mb compared to 100mb with ethernet cable?

Yes but it wouldn't slow down your wired connection. Just look at a few reviews on the cheaper routers and find one that's good.

i didn't mean that it would slow down my wired connection. i was asking if i totally switched to wireless, thats slower than wired right? i'd probably keep my pc on the wired connection since i don't want to buy a wireless adapter.

i'd hate to have to go through setting up a new router

Setting up router is pretty easy, especially if all you want is the wii to see the internet. Plug it in and go :) As long as you have DHCP setup on your home network and enabled in the router, it should work like magic. If you have close neighbors, throw an easy to remember 64 bit WEP key on there. That'll discourage almost anyone. Just plug in from your wired router/switch into the WAN port and let the magic happen.

Yes, wireless is a lot slower than wired, but super handy. It all depends on what you use your network for.

Gotcha. Just get a router that has both wireless and wired, most of them do nowadays. You can still plug your PC into the router and not take a hit speed-wise, and have your wii connect wirelessly. Wireless is pretty easy to set up with any router's software. I've set up countless netgear and linksys routers without any problems. My first setup took about 20 mins total.

Unless you live in South Korea, I can guarantee a wireless G connection is faster than the connection your ISP provides. 54mbps for WirelessG compared to 3-10mbps for standard cable internet. The only difference you would see would be in transfers on your INTRAnet, meaning between devices connected to a wired/wireless router/switch/hub.
