Nintendo Revolution specs revealed?

Gizmodo:

four 2.5Ghz IBM G5 Custom cores, with 128KB of level 1 cache and a 512KB shared level 2 cache, while the graphics will be powered by a dual core ATI RN520 chipset, with 1MB of on-board eDRAM for the frame buffer.

GameIndustryBiz:

A solid indication of the timeline for the launch of Nintendo's next home console has emerged from memory firm MoSys Inc, which has revealed that it will supply memory for the system, with "mid-2006" touted as the launch date.

So what? Console wars aren't won on bogus speculated spec sheets. What do the games look like and more importantly, how do they play? Don't know? Then don't see why we should care.

For someone who only cares about the games, you're pretty quick to post in a console HARDWARE thread in the General HARDWARE forum.

I personally find console hardware designs interesting. If you don't, then don't read the thread.

This isn't about console design. Anyone want to takes bets now on whether or not these specs are accurate? Anyone? It's not news that the launch would fall somewhere in the mid 2006 time frame. With over a year to go, do you think even Nintendo has settled on the final specs? Probably pretty close, but I see no point in posting junk like this which we basically all know isn't going to be a accurate, like the "leaked" XBox 360 photos (which finally appear to be real) and specs for that changed every week.

BTW, if these specs do represent the right ballpark numbers, they definitely are NOT G5s. More likely, they're 4 x 2.5 GHz PPE cores, similar to the PPE core in Cell (clocked much higher), and similar to the three PPE-like cores in Xenon (clocked somewhat higher).

Everyone knows the specs are pure specualtion. I was just stating that it looked cool, and I like it better than the 360

I wasn't responding to your post.

Hmm, have to wonder if they're true or not. Looks like they just took the X360's specs and said we'll one up them (something a typical fanboy would make up). Oh, BTW, not calling the site or who made the article a fanboy.

But yeah, who cares about specs, its the games that matter. Then again the PS2 had the worst specs as well as more crap games compared to the other two and yet still handily whipped them both.

Actually the specs posted almost 5 months ago seem to have hit the nail on the head, and the reference design from one year ago again, outlined the same thing. Like the OP said, if you don't like seeing this stuff, then why in the hell are you commenting on it? I mean really, the best way to avoid having to read this stuff is by simply not clicking on it...free will my friend, free will....

From Nintendo's own mouth:

"In its final form, Revolution will be about the thickness of three standard DVD cases and only slightly longer," the company said. Nintendo partnered with ATI and IBM to develop hardware that fits into the small form factor.

That will be quite an impressive engineering feat by all parties involved if they pull it off with spec sheet power even roughly equivalent to the XBox 360.

It will also be backwards compatible with Gamecube games, which is good news for both GC owners.
