Nintendo Revolution Secret Revealed?

By now, we all know that Shigeru Myamoto announced that there is another big secret for the Revolution which will be revealed at E3 06 shortly before release. Possible guesses are:

Force feedback controller- In Fight Night for example, the controller will have rumblers that make it feel heavy if you hit someone. I forget the technology, but someone probably know what I am talking about.

Stereo Scopic 3d- Maybe some 3d glasses that make the images pop out from your tv. It would probably be optional.

3d Visor- Requires no TV and immerses you in the game. Also optional. Makes sense since Nintendo has been tricky saying they won't support HDTV.

Heat sensitive controllers-Controller will get warm and cold. I see this on a lot of message boards, but I doubt it.

Nothing-Nintendo might just be hyping to take away sales from XBOX360.

Judging by Nintendo's quotes, it seems that it definately has something to do with the controller and/or display. Since I am bored waiting for the X360, I browsed the patent office for a bit and found this.

Patent

I haven't finished reading, but it mentions some stuff about 3d. Anybody want to take a stab at it.

You will need to install the free AlternaTIFF browser plug-in to view the images. There is no harm to the system by installing the plug-in, meaning there are no adware, browser helper objects, or anything similar that will be installed in addition to the viewing software.

that plugin is COOL! but the images are of a gamecube!!!

errr?

btw, u have to register to use the plugin, and i just put in bogus name, company, and email heh.

Gamecube images

from reading the first parts and seeing the pics, it seems more of another technique of camera angles, and generating 3D space in accordance to the camera angle instead of having the camera angle change in accordance to the 3D space being generated... .

current realtime 3D games require you to move your line of site in order to see objects that are hidden behind another object. the camera has to move in order to see this object that's being obstructed by another.

apparently it is discomforting for the gamer to see multiple viewpoints, and due to some camera angles of games, it gives the gamer a sense of claustiphobia by not being able to see "the whole picture." The main object, say the main character you're playing is dynamic in the 3D space, and the camera always has to move accordingly, adapting to a already pre-made 3D space/map/level.

This patent is basically, I think, to generate 3D space in real time in accordance to the camera angle

EDIT: blarg, all in all, this is saying that the whole 3d environment is dynamic, and will change in accordance to what angle you're looking @. There are several viewpoints, and the system will take into consideration on how well u can see these viewpoints, and change the surroundings around you so you can see these viewpoints better.

Lighting will change, objects will change/move/blah relative to your line of site to the main object's viewpoints.

Based from what I gather, developers don't really create maps anymore. they create objects, textures, biuldings, etc, that can be in a level/map/3d area and give their relative locations, but the system will determine their final locations relative to how you view the 3d space so you can get the most optimal view as you enter the level.

so does that mean that everytime you enter a level, it'll be different? so no more "oh ya turn left after that blue box" on gamefaq's? no more scripted events? no more premade maps? :Q

very interesting but it looks like an addition to the Gamecube... registered for on October 27th though. I don't know why they'd be investing in major advances with the Gamecube while if they put the research into the Revolution it might scoot the release date up a bit.

great Another system to give us headaches then will not be played again after the first 10 times. Looks like Microsoft and Sony are going to put Nintento the same place Atari and Sega is.

It sounds like they've invented a different camera positioning algorithm.

Here is the algorithm (simplified):

If an important object in a scene is occluded too much...
move the camera

There are more specifics like the fact that bounding spheres are used and only a small set of points on the sphere are tested, not all pixels on the sphere. (no doubt this is done for performance reasons.)

But I gotta say, legalese is pretty unintelligible. They keep on using "said blah blah blah" instead of refering to things by name. What the heck is with that?
