Nintendo Power - 1st Issue

Looking at eBay completed listings, it shows one that sold for $36. There's one currently listed that hasn't received any bids yet.

Oh man I disliked the Howard and Nester comic greatly when I was a kid and reading now makes me want to shoot myself. But seeing that cover definitely brings back the memories.

I'm sure all of my Nintendo Powers were thrown out long ago, but I could probably dig around at my folks house and see.

ha ha, dragon warrior. i wasted so much time on that game. slime & red slime, the cursed belt, etc. my friend had the map sandwiched between two sheets of plexiglass so it wouldn't get ruined.

I renewed to get it 😛
I was a member of the Nintendo Fun Club, I think I got one or two issues of the magazine before Nintendo Power launched... I was a subscriber up until 94 or 95.

Me too! 🙂

I was so excited when I got it... man I miss those carefree days 🙁

It used to be the best gaming magazine. The staff had insider access to future hardware and games so you got to see it first. Every issue had some good strategy guides.

I don't know about best. It was hardly an unbiased source. Even back then I realized that Nintendo would pimp any game on their system no matter how awful it actually was.

No, they wouldn't pimp all games. Games that received a fair amount of hype and, of course, Nintendo published titles were of course pimped out, but there were games that got trashed too.

There weren't any ads in them either except for much later on.

Yea the content-to-ad ratio was very good.

I was all giddy when I was reading about the CD-ROM attachment.

Wow, I remember having that issue! Actually, I just threw out like my last 30 or so magazines a few months ago. I remember some of the covers were Super Mario 3, Duck Tales, Tetris, Castlevania 3, and looking at how primative the illustrations were with their hand drawn, non 3d rendered pictures.

I remember getting excited reading about the SNES and its cd rom attachment as well! 🙂

I remember getting the one with the Zelda overworld map. It made my handmade one seems less.. special. 🙁

Anyone remember the series they ran that was supposed to form an image along the spines of the magazines, but someone screwed up the order, or repeated part of the pattern. It was shortly after that that I let my subscription finally expire.

I remember sitting in third grade reading that issue with all of the other boys in my class. Good times.

I still have mine somewhere in my stack of old mags.

Hmmm, I wonder how much that mag that printed the racist Japanese artical is worth. For got the name but I know I have it somewhere.
