Well duh, haven't you heard, the Nintendo Wii is an engineering masterpiece. Its lightweight, small, uses practically no electricity, has a blue light on the front, hot damn!

The PS2 rocks. God of War II anyone? I'd recommend anyone pick up a PS2 for that game alone.

The PS2 is an excellent deal. Tons of excellent games. Hopefully the Wii will do as well.

Saying the PS3 is going to flop, or has flopped, is extremely foolish. Heck, I'm suprised they got those numbers with the horrible library the console has now.

I have a feeling things will begin to change once Sony starts bringing out it's big guns; no one can deny the attractiveness of some of the PS3 exclusives. Do I think the PS3 will win the console war? No, but I wouldn't be suprised if it did. It will probably pull a close second or third; either of which would prove the whole flopping frenzy as silly.

Before anyone asks, no, I have no PS3. I have a Wii, Gamecube, N64, SNES, DS lite, PS2, PS1, and Xbox. I guess if you look at just my console numbers, Nintendo wins with four consoles :p. That being said, I don't think the Wii will win the war either; I see library problems for the Wii. The 360 or PS3 is more suited for the rank of #1 console, but I'm not sure which one will win.

Considering that there are only three major competitors in the current console race, I suspect even the PS3 might manage to come in third.

What a stupid question. ;) If you haven't looked yet, just go over to the Playstation 3 forums. If you're bored, you aren't using it right. It's not a console, it's an entertainment center! You must use it to surf the net and play your overpriced Blue Ray movies on the 1080P HDTV you probably don't have yet.

Let's not forget software for the month;

1. 360 LOST PLANET: EXTREME CONDITION 329k
2. PS2 GUITAR HERO 2 W/GUITAR 224k
3. 360 GEARS OF WAR 212k
4. WII WARIOWARE: SMOOTH MOVES 201k
5. WII LEGEND OF ZELDA: TWILIGHT PRINCESS 189k
6. PS2 MADDEN NFL 07 156k
7. GCN LEGEND OF ZELDA: TWILIGHT PRINCESS 144k
8. PS3 RESISTANCE: FALL OF MAN 144k
9. 360 TOM CLANCY'S RAINBOW SIX: VEGAS 135k
10. NDS NEW SUPER MARIO BROS 125k

Between the two SKUs for Lost Planet it sold in the U.S. 408,673 for the 2-3 weeks it hit the street and the time frame for NPD data collection. The 360 continues to dish out million sellers and that certainly bodes well for it. Gears of War just doesn't seem to stop last time I checked it was somewhere between the 3-3.5 million sold range. Developers are certainly taking note. Just today another so called PS3 exclusive was announced for the PC and 360 as well. So many so called exclusives for the PS3 have been changing course and are now headed to other consoles and the PC. The Wii has had a heck of a launch as well and I imagine much bigger things are in store for it.

Nintendo Fan boys are officially worse then Apple fan boys.

The Wii is a gimmick IMO, I can surely understand how it appeals to so many that other consoles don't appeal to. But consoles have always appealed to me, and the Wii....not so much. I am a bit interested, but all of the games and the controller are, to me any way - the type of thing I will like at first and then be completely sick of.

Its my belief that others will start to feel the same way. Give it a year or two, with games that actually appeal to real gamers on the PS3 and 360 and I bet you'll see the Wii taper WAY off. Sure there is Zelda, but the Wii doesn't have a single game thats worth more then 2 hours of play. Maybe Mario Galaxy coming up, but the PS3 has Heavenly Sword, FF XIII, and I actually could list like 10 games I'm looking forward to. The 360 too, has lots of killer apps slater, the Wii has maybe 2.

As of now, I'll just keep my PS2 for quit a while. God of War 2, still playing FF XII, got a couple other role playing games to finish, others coming out. I'll leave Wii to the trendy Apple buyers and Old people.

I agree.. I got one of them the day it came out. I liked it for the first 30 minutes..then the controllers got really akward to me after that. Because I think Nintendo is a great company I am glad they are doing so well, and hope everyone enjoys their Wii!

I got a Wii at launch and ended up selling it after I beat Zelda because nothing appealed to me after that game. Hope people enjoy their Wii.

I managed to pick up a 60GB PS3 a few weeks ago for $550 and I havent had a problem with it at all. Sure there arent that many great titles but the ones that are out are really fun and do a great job showing off what the system is capable of, even at this early stage. Im looking forward to some great new releases.

Kind of feel the same way. Personally I hardly play any Wii game alone, and that's what my PC is for. But nothing (in gaming) beats the fun of having a few friends over for a Wii party. 4-player tennis is incredibly fun. I think if Nintento keep releasing fun party games and occasionally a few great single play titles like Zelda it'll do very well.

Edit: one other advantage of Wii is that you don't feel as bad spending time playing Wii games because it feels like excercising

Given the massive amounts of Sony-bashing going on, and all the reports of stores with piles of PS3s that "no one is buying," a quarter million sold in January in the US is a lot better than I expected.

148K in Japan is also better than earlier reports of only 25K a week ( = 100K / month).

March is when the PS3 might finally be worth buying for gamers, since there will be several new games, and some strong ports (FEAR and Oblivion) for people who haven't already played them on a PC or 360.

In the HD disc wars, those January sales are close to the total of all HD players and 360 HD-DVD drivers sold from day 1. HD-DVD is losing as badly as PS3 is to wii.

It has barely done 20k a week in February in Japan. It did 23k last week and that was with a supposed hit of VF5 launching. Yet VF5 didn?t even sell 15k this week. At this rate it could not top either console ever. It better do damn well in Europe that is all I know. I suspect the February numbers to be much much worse than January with the end holiday sales over and also considering that was a 5 week count for NPD this year. Japan hardware numbers will be out tonight from Media Create.

I can't imagine a market where the PS3 has been more vilified by the press and public than in Europe. And traditionally, Europe trails the US and Japan in terms of hardware sales.

I am in High School; that is a little ahead of my schedule. Just so you know, 5 of those consoles are handed down from members of my family who went to college, 1 of them is really my girlfriend's, and the DS was a christmas present.

The keyword is close. Of course it can be third, but I was saying it was going to be at least a close third

I'm not sure how 'close' it will be if the Wii continues to outsell it 3-to-1. The year lead will definitely help MS hold onto 1st place for most of 2007, but the fact that they are selling an insignificant number of consoles in Japan means that they'll eventually drop to 2nd. Halo 3 will dampen that fall, however.

The PS3 has some gloomy days ahead. How many horses win the derby after stumbling out the gate?

my brother has every video game system available (except wii, don't know why he didn't get it). All he plays is Xbox360. I never see him playing Playstation 3.

My friend got a wii and I love it. I want one so bad, but it is only great if you have friends. Who wants to be my friend? :p
