Well duh, haven't you heard, the Nintendo Wii is an engineering masterpiece. Its lightweight, small, uses practically no electricity, has a blue light on the front, hot damn!

Saying the PS3 is going to flop, or has flopped, is extremely foolish. Heck, I'm suprised they got those numbers with the horrible library the console has now.
I have a feeling things will begin to change once Sony starts bringing out it's big guns; no one can deny the attractiveness of some of the PS3 exclusives. Do I think the PS3 will win the console war? No, but I wouldn't be suprised if it did. It will probably pull a close second or third; either of which would prove the whole flopping frenzy as silly.
Before anyone asks, no, I have no PS3. I have a Wii, Gamecube, N64, SNES, DS lite, PS2, PS1, and Xbox. I guess if you look at just my console numbers, Nintendo wins with four consoles. That being said, I don't think the Wii will win the war either; I see library problems for the Wii. The 360 or PS3 is more suited for the rank of #1 console, but I'm not sure which one will win.

Considering that there are only three major competitors in the current console race, I suspect even the PS3 might manage to come in third.
1. 360 LOST PLANET: EXTREME CONDITION 329k
2. PS2 GUITAR HERO 2 W/GUITAR 224k
3. 360 GEARS OF WAR 212k
4. WII WARIOWARE: SMOOTH MOVES 201k
5. WII LEGEND OF ZELDA: TWILIGHT PRINCESS 189k
6. PS2 MADDEN NFL 07 156k
7. GCN LEGEND OF ZELDA: TWILIGHT PRINCESS 144k
8. PS3 RESISTANCE: FALL OF MAN 144k
9. 360 TOM CLANCY'S RAINBOW SIX: VEGAS 135k
10. NDS NEW SUPER MARIO BROS 125k

The Wii is a gimmick IMO, I can surely understand how it appeals to so many that other consoles don't appeal to. But consoles have always appealed to me, and the Wii....not so much. I am a bit interested, but all of the games and the controller are, to me any way - the type of thing I will like at first and then be completely sick of.

This is per month, the fact that the PS2 is out selling the PS3 is a huge slap in the nuts to Sony.

Kind of feel the same way. Personally I hardly play any Wii game alone, and that's what my PC is for. But nothing (in gaming) beats the fun of having a few friends over for a Wii party. 4-player tennis is incredibly fun. I think if Nintento keep releasing fun party games and occasionally a few great single play titles like Zelda it'll do very well.Originally posted by: msi1337

I agree.. I got one of them the day it came out. I liked it for the first 30 minutes..then the controllers got really akward to me after that. Because I think Nintendo is a great company I am glad they are doing so well, and hope everyone enjoys their Wii!

Given the massive amounts of Sony-bashing going on, and all the reports of stores with piles of PS3s that "no one is buying," a quarter million sold in January in the US is a lot better than I expected.
148K in Japan is also better than earlier reports of only 25K a week ( = 100K / month).
March is when the PS3 might finally be worth buying for gamers, since there will be several new games, and some strong ports (FEAR and Oblivion) for people who haven't already played them on a PC or 360.
In the HD disc wars, those January sales are close to the total of all HD players and 360 HD-DVD drivers sold from day 1. HD-DVD is losing as badly as PS3 is to wii.
I can't imagine a market where the PS3 has been more vilified by the press and public than in Europe. And traditionally, Europe trails the US and Japan in terms of hardware sales.Originally posted by: jlmadyson
It has barely done 20k a week in February in Japan. It did 23k last week and that was with a supposed hit of VF5 launching. Yet VF5 didn?t even sell 15k this week. At this rate it could not top either console ever. It better do damn well in Europe that is all I know. I suspect the February numbers to be much much worse than January with the end holiday sales over and also considering that was a 5 week count for NPD this year. Japan hardware numbers will be out tonight from Media Create.
