Unless the 360 version is totally gimped, there's no way it will appear on the system without at least 4 discs or on an HD-DVD (thereby alienating the early-adopters). There are interviews suggesting that it probably won't fit on 25 GB's.

Xbox 360 can't play games off HD-DVD.

You know, probably 90% of the 25 GB would be FMV. That's really the only way to fill up that much space. The effort necessary to fill up that much space with game data - code, maps, models, textures, etc - would be incredible. Not to mention if you did fill up that much space with game data, the PS3's memory would become a huge bottleneck - you'd either have to copy it all to the hard drive or deal with frequent loading screens. All that to say, it's most likely FMV which can be reduced in size and compressed. Reduce it from 1080p to 720p and you have a substantial savings right there.

Maybe 2 DVD-9s. Is switching discs really that big a deal? Playstation Final Fantasy games came on 3+ CDs.

Cut-scenes FTW!!! One of the oldest in Sony's bag of tricks.

OH BOY I GET TO SWING MY WII MOTE INSTEAD OF PRESSING A BUTTON! HOW REVOLUTIONARY!

no online play yet, and when the wii does get online play they'll probably use friend codes like they do on the DS to appeal to all the 6 year olds they market the wii to

I give the wii six months to lose it's novelty.

Your post smacks of idiocy...Thats why almost 5 million Wii's have been sold so far. Thats why my grandpa wants to play, my aunts, uncles, girlfriend.(my aunt and uncle bought one for themselves) Sure it's 'just' novelty. Yea right.

It's revolutionary because no one has done anything close to this. PS3 SIXAXIS is a joke compared to the Wii-mote. The Wii is attempting to make video games mainstream just like the Ipod made MP3 players mainstream, and so far it's working.

It's staying power will decide if it's a fad or not. What you're describing is basically a fad.

I'm still playing it 4-5 times a week and I bought mine the day of launch...I own 7 games...Wii Sports, Madden, Red Steel, and Zelda get the most playing time...

That's not staying power. It's been what, a total of 4 months since it was released? Staying power is all the people out there sticking with the console down the road. Great, Nintendo has sold a lot of consoles. This is good because they make money on the consoles. But if the consoles are just sitting there and people aren't buying new games for them, Nintendo is in trouble. This has not been the case so far.

Same here. Wii Sports gets old quick by yourself, but it's damn fun with friends.

Everyone said the DS was just a novelty, and it's doing great on it's own, not to mention destroying the competition.

I'll be shocked if the Wii fails at this point. It's already proven itself. The only people that think it's a novelty are those who havent played it, or have no friends to play it with.

That's why I said "alienating the early-adopters." If the HD-DVD drive ever becomes standard, what's to stop them from releasing games on those discs.

The exact quote was "One basic [gameplay] frame with HD visuals and 5.1 sound takes up so much space that the [20 GB or so] capacity will become too small in no time." And from what I've seen of MGS (haven't gone through 3 yet), all of the cut-scenes use the in-game engine. I don't find it so hard to believe that they're talking about gameplay.

It would be 3 DVD-9's at a minimum. The 360 has a 7 GB limit on the discs, and whenever the games are split across discs, space is taken up because of repeated data for each disc.

And yeah, switching discs is a big deal to me. It was a pain back with the PS1, and I'm dreading it for Blue Dragon.

Spoken like someone who has no knowledge of how the industry works.

It's a self-fulfilling cycle.

Nintendo already makes a profit on every Wii sold; that profit will increase as they sell more consoles. Ditto for Microsoft and the 360. Sony loses a hefty amount per PS3 sold, and that amount will not decrease until the quantity sold increases by quite a bit.

Nintendo's system is easy to code for. It may be just a supercharged Gamecube, but that means the development tools are familiar and easy to use. PS3 is new tech, requires a significant investment of time and money to code for. What will draw developers to the PS3 when the installed base for Xbox 360 and Wii are much, much higher?

If developers aren't drawn to code games for your console, consumers won't feel the need to buy it. And Sony has the hardest sell right now, considering their console has the highest retail cost. Sony can either lose more money buy bribing developers to code for the PS3, or drop the price and lose more money on each console sold...and neither action will guarantee a victory for them in the marketplace.

The launch of a new console is absolutely vital to its long term success. For this simple reason, the PS3 will not be as successful as the Wii or the 360. I'll be happy to update the sales figures 6 months from now if you think otherwise.

Anybody who says that the Wii is going to fail is an idiot. Developers see Nintendo dominating the competition and they are the ones who choose which console to write for. If you are a game executive and you saw those #'s, which one would be your target console? Staying exclusively PS3 is dangerous and could potentially bankrupt some developers. Not only does the PS3 have low sales figures, but it is several times as expensive to code for as the xbox360. Staying with the PS3 just doesn't make business sense.

You addressed basically nothing I said. Sure the launch is going great for Nintendo. The Wii-mote is the cool new thing and people are eating it up. My point is if the novelty wears off, console sales are going to taper off, and the people he said (like aunts, uncles, grandparents etc) don't buy anymore games after the first few, Nintendo is not being helped by this.

While it may be easy to code for, if people aren't buying the games then we may turn back to them being on just the 360/PS3, or exclusives even. This will also hurt Nintendo.

I believe Nintendo's true competition right now is the 360, not the PS3. Do I think the PS3 can make a surge down the road? Sure. But it's going to take a lot for the PS3 to truly be competitive with the Wii and 360, and I don't see that happening for a long time, if ever.

Umm, no, it's not revolutionary. Swinging the remote is the SAME THING as pressing a button. Why doesn't the game move the sword or whatever your character has based on how I move the wiimote? Until games come out that actually give me full control of what my character does by moving the wiimote, it is NOT revolutionary and is just a retarded way of pressing a button.

PS3 won't get good games for a long time becasue Sony made the Cell processer hard to code for. You've got the Wii, and the Xbox 360 which already have a huge installed base. They're really easy to code for, and in the Wii's case, fun to code for. I'm not saying the PS3 will flop, but it will be a while until it gets the bypass of great games. And with the Wii games starting to slow down again, Nintendo might be in trouble.

It's so obvious you haven't played the Wii it's not even funny. Sure some games it's 'like pushing a button' but guess what, Wii Sports, Red Steel, Trauma Center, Call of Duty 3, about half of Zelda, Wii Play, Rayman, Elebits, Wario Ware, ExciteTruck, etc all allow some or complete freedom of motion based on what you do with the Wii-mote.

It might help to actually play the Wii so you dont sound so uninformed when you try and criticize the Wii.

And concerning your rebuttal to my comment about family members and non-gamers wanting to play...thats the genius of the system. You certainly don't hear about that with PS3...it's called good marketing on Nintendo's part and going after a target population that video games haven't touched upon in the past...I dont see that sort of innovation in the 360 or PS3...do you?

Why would you want a console to fail? Competition in the market place is a good thing. The only negative that I see to the PS3 is that Metal Gear Solid 4 is exclusive to it.

Actually, you do. The user base is just too small at the moment for it to be noticeable, but I have seen numerous guys already talking about their girlfriends taking over to play flOw. I expect to see the same thing happening with Super Rub-a-Dub. Mainichi Issho is another one that appeals to non-gamers, but that's only in Japanese.

The difference is that those games are just a small portion of the PS3 library whereas they make up the vast majority of the Wii library. It all depends on which you care for.

Yea, comparing $130 console with a great library to $599 console is really fair. If you put it that way, well, PS2 outselling Xbox 360 is a huge slap in the nuts to MS. Sheesh, people just love to bash Sony don't they?

Actually those are great numbers for PS3 considering its library is crap at the moment. LOL@OP declaring PS3 a flop. How short-sighted that comment is.

Looks like we found the first PS3 owner in the thread

So what, I owned a Wii and own Xbox 360. What's your point?
