It's only one game out of many that function this way. I remember the Wii, most of the games even Nintendo first party games only used waggle controls (no true 1:1 motion). It took until Skyward Sword for me to find a game that required more than waggle in order to progress through the game. I didn't play everything, but I know that in Mario Galaxy for example it only made very minor use of the motion control and that Wii Sports Resort used it better as a tech demo than most of the major releases. Nintendo builds this hardware but doesn't really make much use out of it. It's strange to me.
ROB the Robot.
Power Pad.
Super Scope.
Yeah... they have a history of that.
I get what they wanted to do. I see a TON of potential with asymmetrical gameplay, but MS and Sony are going to steal Nintendo's lunch by making it more general across numerous devices and not just a proprietary gamepad with limited use. Wii U should have been built to work with generic streaming so as to work with any tablet, phone, 3DS, etc over wifi, with the pad being an optional and superior Nintendo offering that essentially includes a tablet with a built in controller or vice versa.
I do hope Mario Kart and Smash Bros, and X, as well as a yet to be revealed Zelda and Metroid start to sell some systems. It's really a neat and amazing little system with experiences you can't get anywhere else. But damn Nintendo, it's been almost two years and still next to nothing. I have less than TEN must have games on Wii U since launch. PS4 will eclipse that by the summer, basically in less than 6 months since launch I will have more games for PS4 than the nearly two year old Wii U. That's sad.
